well, i'm just in transit in Hong Kong at the moment and about to get flight into rural china, so not sure how my running schedule is going to go this week, and what it's going to be like where i'm going.
Keen to do some running if i can though as i've just started a program to train for half marathon on May 15.... |
Yesterday I ran for the first time in a week and a half. I'm just coming off of a chest cold so I was coughing and spluttering the whole way, but it felt GREAT to push myself. Unfortunately I fell and banged up both knees and hands as soon as I got into "the zone," but that didn't keep me from completing it. I didn't want to get too crazy so I went about 3.5 miles or so at what is probably a pathetically slow pace.

Bump! What up runners!
14 miler last week, aiming for 15 miler this week. So ready for spring! |
Been so so busy, but doing good with the new routine. I'm keeping my miles around 20 for the week, trying to hit the weights harder and I've added some yoga.
I'm trying to really clean up my diet and am working on some body recomposition to gain some muscle and lose some fat. Good runs this week, I think my body has finally kicked the infections I had and stupidly ran through earlier this week. Changing my focus to body recomp has got me pretty excited - new hobby:aka obsession:) |
all on track for me too - well running anyway, not so much eating.
Just done my long run this morning, which is 15km this week, through streets of chinese city (where i'm working at the moment) and in to the countryside. Nice! Flat. Cold. A bit dusty (interesting nose-blows.......). 35km for the week so far. |
ange82much, your nose-blows comment made me laugh.. hehehe.
I am patiently waiting for the warm weather.... running outside sucks in in 20degree temps! :( ncuneo, I have grand plans for strength training soon, too! Just gotta use up these yoga classes first.... hmph. |
I ran TEN miles today!! My longest run ever!
Didn't run non-stop, as this was a long one, I took it at a steady pace, averaged 6mph, and did a two min walk break after each mile. But I did run the ten miles, although the last mile and a half was tough. |
woo, hoo, congratulations Robsia!!
It's always tough going further than you've been before. On the other hand, the only way to run further is to run further! You're training for the London Marathon?! wow. Good ambition! |
Thanks - only 7 weeks to get from 10 miles to 26.2!!
|
gosh - that will be tough. Are you running some and walking some, or hoping to run it all?
|
To the distance runners, do you give your feet any special care? I'm developing some painful callouses along the inside toe area and guess I need to start putting cream and socks on before bed. During my run yesterday my feet hurt.
To add my experiences to the earlier discussion, I am currently training for a half and in order to fuel enough to have good runs, I am no longer losing weight. I don't mind postponing losses until after the run in May, I'm close to goal weight, but it would make the run easier/quicker if I could lose the last 7-10lbs. |
^I hear you on losing the extra poundage helping with momentum. ;)
Hey runners! Great to hear you are all running such great distances. I ran 16 kms last week in total. I have worked up from 0 to 4km since October, and I seem stuck at the 4km mark. I have increased my speed from 3.8-4.2 mph, even though I was told to work on distance first. Any tips from you runners on increasing distance? Cheers |
He Jojo - good you're enjoying your running.
For increasing your distance just pick one run per week and increase it 10% beyond what you've done before. i.e. pick a day, and go for 4.4km..... Funny (amusing) that you're talking distance in km but speed in mph!!! |
I also trained for my first half at my last 5-10 lbs and my weight loss halted while I trained. Good news though, when the training was over it literally just feel right off within a couple weeks and I even have since dropped slightly under my goal. I'm pretty stable right now, but I'm also focusing more on a lifting/running combo in hopes to tighten things up a bit and am starting to see some results.
Anywho, same ol' same ol' this week - 20 miles. Doing a new weight lifting program so I'm excited to incorporate that. Happy running everyone! |
