i need of some advice!!!

Hey guys...So i've been going to they gym for two weeks now, 5 days a week. I take saturday and sunday off to rest..Im usually on the elliptical for 40mins then i'm on the cross ramp for 30 mins. After that i spend about 15 to 20 mintues on different arm machines. On the machines i can usually lift about 40lbs. Is this workout good enough to lose weight. I really don't have the funds for a personal trainer right now so I really need your help guys. I really don't know what i'm doing but i'm working really hard and i'm pushing myself. Also how much weights do i have to pull on these different arm machines to burn fat on my arms?

Make a warm up of 5 min then do the weights and try to work all the muscle groups. Make sets of 10 rest 30 seconds between each sets 3 times. The weight load it depends adjust for each group, you should be able to do 10 rep but feel you are forcing. Then you can do your cardio at 80% hearth capacity, calculate 220 minus your age by 80%. Let s say the calculation give you 150 work the eliptical at a speed that bring your heart beat to 150 and keep it steady.

I agree that you should do the lifting first, especially with as much cardio as you are doing. Your muscles may be too fatigued to lift your best otherwise. I suggest doing heavy cardio days alternated with light cardio, heavy lifting days. I do spin three days a week and lifting/running two days, with the emphasis on the lifting. For weight loss you want to make sure you are especially hitting large muscle groups, like the legs and gluts. For this squats and lunges are great as are wall sits and running up and down the stairs.

I am no expert but I have been told by a personal trainer that you must rest your muscles in between workouts in order to really build muscle; lift one day, next day off. Maybe you are overdoing it??

I agree with dogs rule. I have a personal trainer and he has me alternate.

Try this for a few weeks, its similar to what my trainer has be doing:
Monday- cardio 60-90 min and core try something other than elliptical, like stairstepper or treadmill. Elliptical doesnt give you as good of a workout. For core, do a combo of planks and abs workout.
Tuesday- Chest, Back and Legs Strength workout do this first then do 20-30 min cardio. Someone in your gym should be able to help you decide what machines/weights to do. For legs do things like sqauts, lunges, etc
Wednesday- same as Monday
Thursday- Arms and Legs Strength workout with 20-30 min of cardio
Friday- Same as Monday

Break up your strength workouts and try to slowly increase the weight you are lifting, make sure you are doing core strength training as well.
