Personal Training?
 
has anyone else benefited from a personal trainer? Any experiences you'd like to share, perhaps? Any input is appreciated!

I used a personal trainer for a while then broke my leg and had to stop, but while I was training with him it was amazing. They push you and motivate you. If you can afford it I would suggest that you give it a try I am about to get started again.

I had a personal trainer once. It had some good points.

I think you have to really take advantage of your personal trainer, because that's what they are there for. If you don't click with them immediately, get another one. I didn't click with mine instantly and as a result, I didn't take advantage of her as much as I could have and I wasn't open to listening to what she was trying to tell me.

Make sure you learn what they are teaching you so you can do it on your own later, whether you get tired of paying for one or you're traveling and you need to work out on your own.

I see a personal trainer once a week. We go over my objectives and she adapts my routine accordingly. I know that what I do is focussed on what I want and she corrects me a long the way to maximise the results.

Another aspect is the motivation she provides me and she keeps me accountable for my choices.

If you have the chance to get a trainer it is worthed, make sure you get a long before committing yourself because like any relationship if you do not get a long you won t go far, good luck

I spent a year and a half going 2x a week one on one and now I do small group personal training, which is much more affordable.

When I was just doing weight training without cardio, I didn't lose a pound for about nine months, but I greatly improved my stamina and felt a lot better. Then I changed my diet and added cardio and have been losing ever since.

It really motivates me to go to the gym because I make appointments to go and I can't cancel less than 3 hours in advance without an emergency. That is what makes it worth it to me, it "forces" me to work out.

As a personal trainer, let me give you some tips for looking for one
-Check their certification--not all certifications are created equally and some so-called personal trainers don't even have one. Some of the most highly-recognized certifications include NSCA-NASM- and ACSM. There are others, but at least make sure they are NCCA approved.
-Make sure you click with your trainer
-Make sure they are professional and not always playing with their phone
-Make sure they are coaching you along the way during the workout and not just talking to you about your life, yes you want a connection but you also deserve to get what you are paying for--a good workout.
-Don't take a detailed meal plan from a personal trainer! Unless your certified personal trainer is also a licensed nutritionist/dietitian they should only be giving you basic nutrition information and suggestions. Meal plans are not within a personal trainer's scope of practice, plus they do not know if you have any conditions or allergies that may be harmful.
