Tanita Scales?

Who's using them? What one do you have? How do you feel about the accuracy?

I'd love to have something that would help me to monitor my body composition. Now that I'm no longer in weight loss mode, my new goals are more around decreasing body fat %, but I have no objective way to measure this!

Thanks for your input. Let me know if I should post this elsewhere. This seemed like a good place to start.

I have a Tanita scale that measures body fat. Unfortunately, the instructions say it is not reliable for body fat first thing in the morning (something about hydration levels). And I don't like to weigh myself other than first thing. ;) I think they recommend weighing yourself at the same general time every day but NOT first thing in the morning. Like before lunch or something? Which can be hard to do.

I've also heard many times that these home body-fat measurements are inaccurate, but it could at least help you track a trend even if the number isn't exact. However, because it is subject to hydration, retaining water will mess with your number (just like it does with the regular ol' scale -- darn!).

All that said, when I had my body fat measured at the gym with the calipers pinching my thigh, my arm and my midsection, that measurement did match my scale exactly (when I dared step on it in the middle of the day).

We have one. I don't know what model it is, and truthfully, I never pay attention to the body fat reading lol. Most of the time you can get a slightly different reading of your weight if you step on it for the second time. I always give myself the benefit of the doubt and take the lowest number. ;) Other times it won't budge even if you do your weight three times (and it always seems like it never moves when it reads a higher weight for me). haha
