Losing the same amount weekly, regardless of amount of exercise
What's the deal? So I'm losing about 1 lb to 1.5 lbs weekly regardless of how much I exercise. My workout consists of walking on the treadmill (hey, it's all I can do right now) and some weeks I walk for 45 minutes 6x a week and other weeks I do 30 to 45 minutes 4x a week with roughly the same, steady weight loss. The pace is roughly the same, too, with varying intervals of speed walking (3.3 mph) and normal pace (2.8 mph). Any ideas on what's going on?
I mean, I've lost exactly 16.0 pounds in the last 8 wks, so I'm not complaining...it IS averaging out to 2 lbs per week. I just thought that the more I exercised, the more weight I'd lose each week. Thanks for your imput. |
Here are a couple ideas:
1. Exercise technically causes injury to the body and injury leads to swelling. Could be you that on weaks you exercise more you actually have more swelling. 2. You may inadvertantly be eating more calories on weeks you exercise more. 3. You may not be burning significantly more calories on weeks you exercise more to cause a visible change on the scale. This would be my guess. For example (calories burned are just a guess).... Walk 1 hour six times a week...burn 250 calories x 6 days = 1500 calories (not quite 1/2 pound weight loss) Walk 45 min four times a week... burn 190 calories x 4 days= 750 calories (not quite 1/4 pound weight loss) The difference in weight loss between weeks you walk less and weeks you walk more may not be large enough to show up on the scale (THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU AREN'T STILL BENEFITTING FROM IT). |
