Headphones that Don't Abandon Ship? Err... Ear?

Hey guys! Not sure if I should have put this in exercise equipment or not, since it's more of an accessory type deal... But anyway, feel free to move it if need be. :)

So I've been running C25K, I'm on the 3rd week(Just did day 2 this morning!) and I am having some serious headphone hatered. For the most part, mine stay in my ears... But almost always once per run, one or both of them decides that being in my ear is just NOT cool, and it leaves me all awkward running with one earpiece dangling.

The style I have right now is like an earbut that also has the thing to go over the back of your ear... I like the idea of it, I even find them comfortable... But I just need something that's going to stay better! Mine are lame, a brand called iLuv... So, what can you lovely ladies(or gentlemen!) recommend to me? :D

Right now I have Coby Sports Neckband Earphones. They stay in place extremely well, but they don't fit quite as snugly at my ear as I would like. I'm dreaming about Skullcandy, which I've had many recommendations for.

Sadly I just broke mine, though prior to that I thought they were fabulous. If I can repair them I'll come back and recommend. :)

Those skullcandy headphones look awesome, Rochester.... I may be drooling a little. ;) Stuff to consider! :D

Those look great, Glory! myo nly issue being that I run with my music on my phone, because I also have an app for C25K that tells me when to do what. ;)

sorry, cannot help...I run with an IPOD..the new model out just this year hasn't proven to be an issue..last years model did what you describe.

I am pretty sure you can download a similar program from Itunes if you want to try an Ipod..good luck..

I'll be reading this thread with interest. While I have Bose earbuds and I love, love, love the quality, they don't say in sweaty ears worth crap. They are earbuds with silicon covers but nothing to hold them in the ear.

I purchase skullcandy for Christmas and he runs with them all the time and loves them. I may retire my Bose for Skullcandy because I hate how my Bose pop out and according to my son, even though there is no comparison to the quality of the Bose, the Skullcandy have great sound quality

I've never found ear buds that stay in. I think my ears aren't shaped right for them. If I set them in, the fall out; if I push them in, it hurts. So I used the clip on headphones. This is my current pair: http://www.usa.philips.com/c/headphones/shs3701_27/prd/ Phillips has a few varieties. Before these I had a similar pair from Sony (went through 2 pairs of the Sonys: lost one, destroyed the others) which I also liked a lot.

Skullcandy (mine broke, so sad) or AKG. They both come with warranties.

dancerindenver 06-24-2010 09:13 PM

ninepaw - hey there! I used to have similar troubles with my ear buds but someone mentioned tucking the cord through the top of your sports bra strap and somehow that makes them much more stable - maybe that will work with yours as well. Hope that helps!

saef 06-24-2010 09:51 PM

Skullcandy Smokin Buds, till they changed the design to have a rigid piece coming out of the side, and now those fall out of my ears again.

I always get them on eBay. Much cheaper.

chnkymonkey 06-25-2010 09:36 AM

Dancer,

I tuck mine into my bra - but I also have a clip that clips them to the top edge of my shirt. Just having them in my bra they would still slip out because they'd fall and get too tight. But adding the clip to leave just enough slack around my head and the rest of the cord tucked securely into my bra seems to help. Of course, nothing will help sweaty ears keeping the buds in.

ACLAI--- these...yes.. the phillips-- the ONLY HEADPHONES i can run in! There are NO EARBUDS on the EARTH (including skull candy) that will stay in my ears when i run. I only run in the phillips, and the only store that carries them anymore (in denver, at least) is Walgreens. No one else has em.....of course, you can get em online. Other ones that clip oveer the ears still bounce around and annoy me. These are the BEST!! Not great quality sound or anything...

Thanks for the input guys! So far I see a lot of praise for skullcandy... I've been considering the titans. Looking at amazon for reviews, they get about 4.5 stars across the board. All in all, I think I may have to be willing to trust the masses on this one! It's so silly, because I keep thinking about this and thinking about it... You'd think by now I would just make up my mind already! But I'm afraid of choosing something, then finding it's not at all to my liking! At some point though, I know I have to suck it up and just CHOOSE! Which means telling mom what I want(Late birthday present) and let her do the rest. :)

Skullcandy are great, but a little pricey IMO. I have marshmallows (http://www.amazon.com/JVC-HAFX33P-Ma.../dp/B000IS758E). Cheaper, stay in your ear really well and the sound is perfect.

I'm bumping this up to thank OP for asking this question, and also to thank Aclai & Mkroyer, who are absolutely right about the Philips with earpieces.

The wire recently shorted on my Skullcandy buds & I needed to replace them. (Of course this happened shortly after this thread was posted, so I believe OP jinxed me. ;-) I took a chance & bought the Philips, on eBay, so the price was quite good. (I think 99 cents plus shipping.)

Just wore them today. Once I got them on, I did not have to touch them. Not even once. No slipping. They DID NOT MOVE. I was on an arc trainer & then wore them while lifting weights. The only drawback is the left one pinches my ear a bit. But I was also wearing glasses, so there was a lot hooked on back there. These particular clips are interesting because they have a distinctive "left" and "right."

So I'll be the third one to endorse this, conditionally -- because they don't move. I believe the sound quality is better on my Skullcandy. My third criteria is how long the wires last without shorting, and the jury's out on that so far.

Hamoco350 07-05-2010 04:02 PM

I stick with my Apple headphones, always have. I thought about trying Bose, but something about the sound quality of Apple has kept me hooked. They don't fall out of my ears, haven't had that problem.
