Does mowing the lawn count?

I just mowed the lawn again. Took me 25 minutes non-stop. I am sweating up a storm and huffing and puffing. Does this count as exercise? LOL I hope so because if it doesn't, then real exercise ain't happening tonight.

my trainer told me an adult can burn about 400-600 calories an hour pushing a lawn mower. but it only counts for the non-gas powered type.

I consider mowing the lawn, house cleaning, gardening, all with a vigorous effort as cross training...but having said this I would still go for a walk or a bike ride in the evening ...

Personally, I don't count it as exercise, In my mind, it falls under the "life" category. I walk the dogs every night (a pretty brisk walk usually), on average it's between 30-40 minutes and I do not count this as exercise either.

If you live in TX like I do and you mowed the lawn, than I would absolutely count it as exercise!

It does where I live, but I'm in the Appalachian mountains. lol

For me, if it's something I've always done anyway, then I don't class it as exercise. It is however what I've heard lots about on here, NEAT, non-exercise activity something or other lol, which I think means putting as much non-exercise activity into your daily routine to help burn extra calories.

Heck yes! It counts in my book for certain!:carrot:

honestly, i would count it as exercise because it is not something that you do EVERYDAY. i scrub the HECK out of the showers last week...got the lime scale and soap buildup off...i'm not kidding...all 3 showers took over an hour to do...and it was a constant scrubbing, up and down motion. i was a sweaty mess after and my arms were KILLING me the next day. i don't do that everyday, or really once a week for that matter...i definitely counted it as exercise. man i was EXHAUSTED...maybe i SHOULD do it more often! lol

Hello :) I consider it as exercise, one because my front yard is a slight hill, and with a mower that is not self-propelled it is hard and two because it takes about 4-5 hours to cut the entire yard. You definitely get your water in while mowing. Great workout once a week.:D

Best of luck to us all in our weight loss journeys.

oh heck yes mowing the lawn counts! So does vigorous gardening, whacking weeds profusely, etc.

If you can burn several hundred calories from doing something, why not count it as some exercise?

To each her own :carrot:

Heck yeah....there are times, back before our push mower died on us, that I'd do half my normal cardio one day a week, strap on my heart rate monitor and push mow the back yard (it was fairly large). I live in Texas also - for SURE a workout!
