Simple Question

  • What is the best excersize to lose weight. Cardio and weigts or just cardio?? Im 21 280 pounds. Please help. I read so many websites but im not sure if its for people this out of shape. And if anyone knows a website to help with weights like how many and what kinds, etc please let me know... Thanks
  • The answer is both. Cardio is great to get your heart pumping and burn calories- but they don't build up your muscle which is what burns the calories.

What are you currently doing/planning to do for exercise?
  • Yes definitely both. Depending on how much you plan on exercising I would do cardio 3 days and weight training 3 days.

Don't know if you have ever tried workout videos. But Chalean Extreme is a great mixture and you can do everything low impact in the cardio videos. Plus you get to do it in your OWN living room

I was a gym junkie but I've been doing videos for a little over a month with way better results! Don't underestimate a workout video

Downfall - you may have to buy some weights in order to do the weight training part. But its a one time expense compared to a gym membership

    Hope that helps.

  • I plan on working out 4 or 5 times a week. i just dont know what kind of weights to do.
  • Here is a good website to get you started: Stumptuous
Definitely combine cardio with weights. Good luck!
  • I'm not being flip here, but the best exercise is the one(s) you'll like doing. I was the original "I hate to exercise" girl but because I only did the things I liked I am now exercising more than 6 hours a week which is the major reason I am losing (I know many folks say weight loss 80% diet, 20% exercise but for me those ratios are reversed).

My choices were walking (hiking on weekends), swimming, exercise bike. I am now starting to add running and yoga just because I want to. I never thought I'd be a person who would be adding more exercise to her life just for fun!
  • I would suggest starting out small. I used to say "I'll do five workouts a week" then do one and get mad at myself. Now I workout almost everyday.

I agree to do things you like- you like walks? Take a few a week, then if you feel up to it move up to jogging and then running

I started with walks, slow jogs on my treadmill ($100 used on Craigslist), then added some resistant band workouts and started using some weights when I walked (3 lbs and 5 lbs). This week I've started taking aerobic classes and while they kick my butt and leave me useless the next day I REALLY enjoy them

It's funny- now I look forward to my workouts- before I hated them!
  • I dont hate working out. I hate the gym. To many people and i feel like everyone is staring at me. Weird I know!. I use the one in my neighborhood which works great. It just doesnt have classes but im ok with that. Me and my sister walk 45 minutes a day mon thru friday and sat and sun i plan on doing weights. Is that ok or not 2 days in a row? I dont want to kill myself since i just started
  • Walking is a great way to start getting into exercising! I wouldn't advise doing weights on consecutive days, though, because your muscles need time to recover after weight lifting sessions.

It is not advised to do the same muscles 2 days in a row, but you can certainly do weight training 2 days in a row. You could work your upper body on Saturday, and your lower body on Sunday I have to admit, it isn't really ideal, but it can be done.

    For example...

    Saturday (upper)
    Bench press, push ups, etc.

    Sunday (lower)
    Squats, lunges, etc.
