Which do you think is better?
1. Walking 2 miles
OR 2. Running 1 mile I am just curious as which you think is better? And why? Do you think one burns more calories than the other? Is one better for your body in general? |
Which ever one you can and will (and want to) do over a long period of time, with minimal injury, is better.

I agree with the previous poster. This also isn't a very good comparasion because they are basically equal. Running burn about double the cals of walking so if you want to burn the same cals as running by walking your need to double the distance. From a fitness stand point you'll get more muscle tone from running because it's higher impact on your body and your tend to flex your core while running. I personally prefer running but when I'm tired and need a break walking is great too.

Personally, I do both. Running gets my heart rate going and builds my cardiovascular fitness, but walking is much easier on my body.
|
Doesn't matter. Whichever one you can do and keep doing and build on.
Everyone has a different starting point for fitness. Start wherever that is, and build up. A. |
I say go by time and do whatever combination you need. Walk. Run. some combo.
|
Walk until you can run. Then do a combo.
In the long term even if they burn the same calories you're going to build better core/leg strength from running and improve your overall cardio fitness at a quicker clip. |
Thanks guys. I was honestly just curious. I tend to run about 1.3 miles a day around my neighborhood (I clocked it with my car ;] lol ) and I feel accomplished, and it doesnt take hours out of my day. I wasn't sure if it was "enough" though, so I thought I'd ask opinions on the subject.

i like walking, that way i can take my dog.. LOL It makes me relax and just enjoy whats around me :)
|
Both are equally good, I think you should do both as cross training.
