If you gained or stalled when starting excercise

  • how long was it before you saw downward scale movement again?

I started excercising again (recovering from a back injury and have been mostly inactive other than PT for months) about two weeks ago and the scale has been doing crazy things. I knew this was likely to happen and I'm not terribly concerned about (though I do miss seeing a linear downward pregression on the scale!) - I feel great, better than I have in ages, and most of the initial soreness has gone. I';ve been doing some aerobic excercise as well as a lot of things like squats, lunges, resistance band excercises for upper body, etc. I was initially very, very sore, particularly in my thighs (from the squats) and certain parts of my shoulders and back (though, thankfully, not where my injury was!). My body is feeling very strong and I love it! I'm just wondering if there's an average time for my body to get used to it and stop messing with the scale!
  • Nope, there is no average time for your body to get used to exercise and stop messing with the scale! UNFORTUNATELY ...

BUT for starting to exercise ... Exercise is so important, hang in there the weightloss will come...
  • Yeah, with exercise thrown in, there is nothing linear about the loss for me. Not at all. But the inches are coming off all the time. I swear I'm starting to notice differences each and every morning, even as the scale stays stagnant.

It's frustrating, but wonderful at the same time! I'm glad to hear you're back at it!
  • It took me 4 weeks being at a complete stall when I first ramped up the exercise. Then I had a 4lb whoosh. I was on vacation for most of April and did not do my regular classes. Now I've been back my scale has once again been resolutely stagnant. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks if there's no movement but I won't mind if I get that whoosh again!

  • I DO seem to stall when I ramp up the exercise... but I LOOK smaller.
  • Well, I finally seem to be heading back down again! Woot! Also, I'm looking much better - or at least I feel like I look better .
