More exercise, less weight loss. Help!

hi all,

Well I started out on a 1600 calorie a day diet, which has worked very well for me in the past. For the first month, I lost about 5 pounds, which was great. Then I upped my exercise, doing more lifting, and started spinning classes three times a week, one of them is a two hour class. I eat back some of my calories (eating some or all of my calories has worked well in the past to, and by past, I mean a year ago). In the last month I have lost absolutely nothing.

I'm going to wait another week (it's almost TOM) and then try something else.

I don't buy that it's gaining muscle, because you should still lose a pound or two in a month, even if you are gaining muscle, right? Also, my clothes still fit the same.

Please help, has anyone experienced this? Any ideas?

Well everyone's first month tends to have more weight loss then following months. Also, your muscles tend to retain water when you work them which means the scale can stay the same or even go up while your fat decreases. I'd start measuring yourself if you haven't already, that would be better than relying purely on a scale.

I would suggest you go on to a site and get an idea of how many calories you should be eating to lose, cycling is a very intense workout not sure if 1600 cals are enough. I aim for 1600 cals and I weigh 238. Im losing steadily and I work out about four hours per week normally I take classes at the gym I attend in one hour increments
