Wii
Every year I buy myself a birthday present, and this year I'm contemplating buying a Wii, mainly for the active gaming programs (e.g., Wii Fit). It's pretty expensive, so I'm looking for reviews. Does anyone here have a Wii and use it for fitness? Thanks!

I have a wii, and I bought it for the same reason you are considering. Well worth it. It is a lot of fun, and makes fitness fun. I look forward to working out every day now that I got it, and I hated working out before. I love that it's in the house, so no excuse not to get out walking if it's raining or cold. I just have Wii Sports and Wii Fit. I use the Will Fit every day. And because of it I went from no exercise to 30 mins 7 days a week, simply because it's so fun.
Well worth the investment. |
I ♥ Wii!!

Wii
Ditto. I've just come off it now. I use the muscle workout and yoga sections of wii fit and play a lot of tennis on Wii sports - it serves as an addition to my gym workouts and other cardio. I'd definitely recommend it, as long as you have plenty of space to use it, without it interfering with family tv-viewing etc etc.

Wii Fit is great along with the Wii Active fitness game. I started just using those and now I mix it up depending on the weather.
It's a good solid investment IMO. |
Another Wii lover here! I use Wii Fit and The EA Active and really love both.
Well worth it, IMHO! |
By the way, I love the tradition of buying yourself a birthday present! Brilliant!!

Thanks, everybody! I've already ordered one, even though my birthday is still a month away.
Momof5k, I started this tradition for my 30th birthday (I was feeling pretty blue about the big 3-0). I took myself to Lisbon, which was FABULOUS. Portuguese men are *really* attractive and not at all off-put by women of size. I was a lady, but it was really nice to have so much attention. (That was my most expensive "present," by the way. Usually I spend about $100 or so on something I want but don't need, like perfume.) |
I'm also a Wii lover :) Good for you for giving yourself the present

although i am a heavy gym junkie, I have a wii and tried to do the boxing training. It did help me break a sweat if you really get into it.
However it works both ways you can play most of games just flicking your wrists and slouching on the couch. :( |
EA Active has taken over my life and I'm lovin' it!

I have owned an exercise bike, an elliptical, a treadmill, and a weight set, and I can honestly say the best exercise equipment I ever bought was my wittle Wii :)
Believe it or not, the games I find most useful for exercise are NOT the games like Wii Fit or My Fitness Coach. Games like that end up in the same pile as my other exercise equipment. The games that are most effective for me are games where I'm "tricked" into exercising :) Here's what I think is pretty helpful list of Wii Workout Games you may find useful. Its a good reminder that there's life beyond Wii Fit! My favorite is Dance Dancer Revolution. Another good one is Active Life Outdoor Challenge. A great rhythm game is Helix (downloadable as Wii Ware). This is not to say I don't use games like EA Sports Active, but mixing it up with other games really keeps a good variety, something which I need, as I get bored very easily :) Happy Wiiing! :) |
