20 mile race report!

Alright everyone,
just finished my 2nd 20 miler of marathon training......Went EVER so much better than the first!!! Dont get me wrong, running 20 miles hurts, no matter how well it goes, but this time the weather cooperated (race started out about 50 degrees, and at the end was prob around 70 degrees) I drank lots of gatorade, paced myself almost FLAWLESSLY at a 9 minute mile, and get this------ i got SECOND PLACE overall!!! Can you believe it?!?! i mean, not to burst my own bubble, but it was kinda by de facto, considering only about 15 runners completed the full 20 miles, but still!! I got a cool 2nd place medal, and my finishing time was 3 hr 02 min!!! I was trying to pace myself for 3 hours (thats a 9 min mile) so i came pretty close. Overall im very pleased, and QUITE sore in my butt and hamstrings, but i will live....... I only have one more 20 mile training run before the marathon, and im feeling much better about the whole thing!

I have to agree. I've been running outside in public, since the end of May. Rarely does anyone even notice me, but the few times I've gotten comments, they've been good! And at the 5k I did this weekend, there were people of all fitness levels there - and everyone was so nice and encouraging. People were scattered on the route cheering everyone on. And I'm so slow too, your best time is just about my best time for a 5k.

I loved it! I cant wait to do it again! My Dad and I are planning a 10k when he gets home next May. I cant wait! :)

The 10 K was incredible Thighs, I finishes in 1:18, yep I was pretty much "an active breeze" too

Wow, so many wonderful runs! How inspiring!

Momof5k - Good for you for reaching your goal this week! That's a great achievement!

Lizzy - Congrats on the 5k!! I actually still haven't done my first race but I'm sure it was exhilarating and fun and I'm so glad you had such a great experience!

Thighs - 4 miles! Rock on! Especially after being sore from rock climbing. You've totally inspired me to try it out, if I can find somewhere around here. Sounds awesome!

Ilene - Congrats!! That's a kick *** time for a 10K and honestly, just finishing is impressive enough as it is!

Mk - I'm so happy your 20miler went so well! Damn girl, 2nd place? That's AMAZING! You're so ready for your marathon. I can't wait to hear all about it!

As for me, I put my crappy run from Friday behind me and had a fantastic run this morning. 6 miles outside! My longest outdoor run yet! I paced myself really well and stayed at a comfortable 10min/mile so I finished in 61 minutes and wasn't all that exhausted. I finally feel ready for my 10K! :carrot:

Lizzyg 09-13-2009 08:25 PM

I found out my time and where I placed :) lol I did awesome ;) :o

176 out of 183. And it took me 44:59. The hills on this route killed me, since I've been doing about 43 mins for 3.2 miles. But thats ok. I obviously didn't do it to win it. But seeing it in the paper, really makes me want to do another one and do better!! :)

And wow, 6 miles, thats awesome TC! You'll have fun at your first race!

Hi everyone, just checking in. I finished my first 5k today in 34:02...I'm actually really happy with the time. Apparently the race route that I have been practicing on was not a full 3.1 miles.. it is 2.8. Gee no wonder I was finishing in 30 minutes!

Anyway I am really happy with that time. It is actually my fastest true 5k time yet, and it even included some walking. I learned a LOT from my first race... mainly... DON'T START FAST! I knew it, I read about it, but the excitement and adrenaline got the better of me and I petered out about halfway up the 1 mile uphill. I got a MAJOR side stitch from running too fast and it crippled me the rest of the way. I kept having to stop and walk for 10-15 second increments. But I was 1) not last (more like in the middle) and 2) the 5k walkers who started 15 minutes later did not overtake me, so overall I am happy. :D

I was pretty bummed after the race.. I think I could have done better but I learned so much and I had a great time. I am looking at a 5k in October and then my 10k in November.

Anyway, I've attached two photos from the race... I had so much fun!

3fcuser1058250 09-13-2009 10:16 PM

Lizzy, great time!! :high:

Fat Pants, you look great!! :carrot:

TC, you are sooo ready for that 10K :cp:

CakeBatter 09-14-2009 09:36 AM

Congratulations everyone on your races.

I am going to attempt my long run today. I have been on a week-long hiatus and just started up again friday. So I getting my groove back. I have a few races coming up but the ones I am anxious about is the 10 miler and then the HM.

TC - 6 miles Outside WTG!!!!! It feels good don't it?

iDream 09-14-2009 01:43 PM

Hello everyone! I've been peeking in on this thread for a couple of weeks or so and I'd love to join if you'll have me. :)

I'm not sure if I'd call myself a full-fledged runner just yet, as I'm still working on completing the C25K, but I had a dream last night that I ran an hour and 25 mins straight so maybe that's a sign? ;)

Anyway, you ladies are so inspiring and I'd love to you join you! I've signed up for my first 5K on October 3rd and that happens to be the day of my last C25K run. :carrot: I figured I'd end the program with a bang. :D

I look forward to getting to know you all! :)

3fcuser1058250 09-14-2009 02:10 PM

Hi Sandye  and :welcome: to being a runner...

dancerindenver 09-14-2009 03:46 PM

Howdy all - I was out of town for a few days and missed a bunch of big accomplishments - congratulations all around!
MK - if a girl can be a stud, you definitely are! Wow. Serious wow.
TC - woohoo on 6 miles outside - happy dance!
Fatpants - love love love the new avatar! Way to go on your race - I'm so happy for you!!!

We hiked in Aspen on Friday - 7 miles at altitude and it was so much easier than our shorter, lower hikes at the beginning of the summer when I was heavier and hadn't been running so much so I was pretty happy about that.

Just ran 3 miles today (didn't have time for a longer one) and did it in 30 minutes so those were 10-minute miles from ms. slowpoke - small happy dance! I'll run longer tomorrow and I'm sure I'll slow right down again but it's nice to know I can do it if necessary : )

Thanks, ladies, for being here and being inspiring!

TakingCharge 09-14-2009 09:41 PM

Fat Pants - Woooohooo!!! I'm so glad your race went well! Awesome pics!

Lizzy - You completed the race and that's what matters! You should definitely keep doing more and you will absolutely get better and better! Way to go!

Cake - How'd your long run go? Why the week long hiatus? I know you'll do great on your upcoming races!

Idream - Welcome! If you run, you're officially a runner! Good for you for signing up for a 5K. I'm sure you'll do great!

Dancer - Wow, your hike sounds awesome. And WOW on the improvement in your mile time! It's great that all of your hard work has paid off so much and your fitness level is clearly feeling the benefits!

Thanks for all the encouragement about my 6 miles! It definitely felt great, especially after a crappy run. I've transitioned into running 4x/week instead of 3 and making more of those runs outside so I really think that'll improve my endurance and speed for races. I love new running challenges and the fact that they're limitless!

Fat Pants 09-14-2009 10:49 PM

Dancer- glad you had such a great hike in Aspen!! I'd love to get in one more fall hike this year when the leaves are changing. And HOLY COW, 10-min mile!! You rock! I hope I can one day work up to that! :D

TC- You are a rock star with the 6 miles!!! Way ahead of me at this point.. I'm still petering around 4.5 miles... gosh I am going to have to get my act together and catch up with you! You are so well prepared for the 10k..you are gonna rock it!

MK- glad your second 20-miler went better this time around, and congrats for placing so high!! Are you nervous for the marathon? I'm sure you will do great!

Ilene - congrats on your 10k!!! That's a fantastic time!

Lizzyg- congrats also on your first 5k! Sounds like you had a lot of fun... I have a feeling this whole racing bit is going to be addicting. :D

Well as for me, thanks for the words of encouragement everyone. To be honest I have been dealing with some feelings of disappointment over a very imperfect first race. I don't know what I was really expecting...just to do better than I did, I guess! But it's ok, I learned a lot and am already looking forward to my next 5k in October. I'm excited to get back out there and improve!

My current weekly plans for the 10k have me going for long runs on Wednesdays, but I think I might switch it to Saturdays. So the easier runs would be M-W-Th with the long run on Saturday and perhaps an easy recovery run on Sundays. That way I can focus during the week on improving my 5k time without juggling other things that come up - family/friends, work, etc. I feel like I'm putting pressure on myself to squeeze in that long run in the middle of the week (and it's REALLY squeezed in there since I get home from work at 3 and usually have plans on Wednesdays at 6:00) and it will just go better if I allow myself a bigger window of time.

Also I have a running partner who wants to run on Wednesdays and I would really rather have my long runs to myself... I can focus better because she is a TALKER! :dizzy:

I know 8 weeks is plenty of time to work up to 6 miles but if I don't start getting my long runs on track, my 10k will be here before I know it!

TakingCharge 09-14-2009 11:49 PM

Fat Pants - I'm sorry to hear that you're a little disappointed about your race, though I totally understand and have gone through similar experiences. I think all of us in the group as runners, dieters and women tend to be really hard on ourselves and don't give ourselves enough credit for the amazing things we've done and continue to do. I know sometimes it doesn't really help to hear others tell you how great you're doing, but I just want to say one more time that I'm so impressed with all of your hard work and determination. You're only getting better and better, so look back on everything you've accomplished with pride and use minor setbacks or disappointments as fuel for future accomplishments! As for 6 miles, you've got it in the bag! I literally went from 5 miles one Sunday to 6 miles the next Sunday, so you never know what your body can do until you just try it out. It can be more mental than anything! Anyway, enough pep talk from me :) Have a greet week everyone! Let's stay on track and have a great weigh in next week!

southofriver 09-15-2009 07:38 AM

Hi everyone. I've just got back from holiday (and haven't posted on here for a while). I was away for a week and managed 4 x 30 minute runs in that time. It was fun to run in the fields and the weather was great. Now I need to get back into my pre-summer routine, which has slipped, and exercise most days. I ran a half marathon before summer and hope to do a marathon in April. Good luck to everyone with your running.

Thanks - I needed to hear that! ;) You are right, it's like I keep telling myself "You should be so happy with what you've accomplished" but instead I keep replaying all the rookie mistakes I made! I guess I just need to start putting it behind me and look ahead to the next race. The only place to go is up!

I DO think my being stuck at 4.5 miles is 75% mental. It's like when my long run days are here and I start out, all I can focus on his how much it sucks lol. I think Saturday running will help me be a little more relaxed and maybe I won't put so much pressure on myself.

CakeBatter 09-15-2009 08:01 AM

Dancer - I have never been hiking before but it is something I want to try at least once. Glad you had a blast! And what an improvement on time. WTG

Mk _ I agree with dancer...you are awesome

TC- Thanks lady. I just wasn't feeling up to it. So I breaked. That's all I am totally back! Longish run went well.

Lizzyg - Congrats on your 5K

iDream - WELCOME! Of course you are runner

My long run turned into a longISH run. I didn;t have enought time to do what I needed to do. I had to meet with the wedding planner last night so I had to fit in what I could which turned out to be 7 and a half miles. I wasnt bad but it wasn't 10. I will try again on wednesday because tonight is speed.

mkroyer 09-15-2009 10:03 AM

I have a dirty, DIRTY little secret

you guys,
i will go back later today and read all of your guys race reports!!! COngrats to everyone....but now, i have to confess a horrible little secret...my personal shame, especially as a runner...... Im a smoker! Not just a light here and there or a couple cigarettes a day kinda smoker-- like a pack a day smoker!!! I know, i know how horrible and disgusting it is, i dont need to hear it from you guys too!! :) I also know how riduculous that makes me, as a runner AND a smoker..... SO i recently came two conclusions: #1 i am terrified of doing the marathon becuz it means i will have to go 4 waking hours without a cigarette (im being serious, this makes me anxious) and #2) although i dont FEEL like smoking has held me back as far as running foes (im never gasping for air or hacking up a lung) i do acknowledge that its holding me back in ways maybe i dont realize (endurance, or lactic acid threshold wise, whatever..) If i want to qualify for the Boston Marathon maybe this spring, i CANNOT do it as a smoker.
So, i QUIT. TODAY. I ALREADY quit. I bought nicotine patches, and gum and all that crap last night. i am TRULY terrified of gaining any weight...that was the hardest thing to wrap my head around..... i dont know...... So i have not smoked this morning (by now i woulda had 5 smokes already) and im doing ok, so far....... luv ya guys (ps dont judge me please :)

dancerindenver 09-15-2009 11:58 AM

MK - :bravo: for quitting! WTG! If you need extra help in quitting, you might talk to your doc about Zyban which has helped a few friends of mine and also has a mild appetite suppressant as a side affect which would help with the quit-smoking munchies. I know it will be really hard for a while but you'll be sooo glad later that you did it. And your body will be thankful too! Hang in there!

TakingCharge 09-15-2009 12:00 PM

Fat Pants - I looked at your mini-goal photo album (everyone go check it out!) and WOW! You look amazing! I'm so happy that you took some pictures and are really embracing your accomplishment! I can't wait to see you keep reaching and exceeding your goals with both weight loss and running! Congrats girl!

Cake - 7.5's not too shabby! I bet your weekend 10miler will be awesome!

Mk - YES YES YES!!! I can't tell you how happy it makes me that you've given up smoking. It took a lot of courage for you to confess to us and that really shows that you're serious about this. There's absolutely no judgement here, just support, so come to us with your ups and downs and we'll always be here to listen and maybe kick your butt a little bit like you kick ours! :)

Speaking of kicking butts, I totally slept through my run this morning, but the local running store has a club that runs on Tuesday evenings and I've been dying to go so now that it's cooled down a bit, I'm gonna do it today. The only problem is that I have class until 5 and I know I'll be tired and tempted to just go home after, but if you don't hear about a nice 4 mile run from me today, please YELL at me! Thanks!

mkroyer 09-15-2009 12:16 PM

TAKINGcharge_--- DO IT!! run with the group!! its so FUN to run with a running club!!! have you run with a group before?? its totally different and helps change up the "monotony" of running the same way/place everyday!!
I think once you get used to running outside, you will never go back to the treadmill!!! And you live in CA?? you can run outside all year round basically, and comfortably too!!!!! Way to go on 6 miles outside!! Thats your 10K!!! Is your 10K course hilly?? remember to practice running routes that include at least one or two hills frequently if your 10K isnt flat!

Dancer-- i prefer to do this sans medications, but thank you for the info!! I am just using the patch and nicotine gum, for now. I am gonig to closely monitor my weight, and im into a really good routine as far as what i eat and when, and my body knows (usually) when its food time, so im HOPING to minimize any weight gain!! NONE would be awesom of course, but ive heard even when woman are crazy exercisers and eat really well (which is me!) they still gain on average 2 or 3 pounds because quitting smoking decreases your metabolism just a LITTLE bit.....

momof5k 09-15-2009 12:39 PM

WTG on quitting!!!

I cannot even believe that you run as much and as well as you do smoking! Hats off to you!

Once you have kicked that habit, just imagine how well your runs will go!

iDream 09-15-2009 01:21 PM

Good afternoon ladies!

Fatpants~ I checked out your pics too and you look fantastic! Having never run a race, I can't say 'I've been there' about feeling disappointed, but I've felt that way about other things--and let me tell you, you should feel nothing but proud of yourself! You got out there and ran a race!!! That alone is something to be insanely proud of! :) Not only that, but you've signed up for more!!:carrot:

Mk~ as a former smoker there'll be no judgement comin' from me! ;) Just take one day at a time--since you're already pretty set in a eating routine, weight gain shouldn't be too much of an issue. Good luck and congrats for quitting!!! Soon you'll wonder how on earth you ever smoked!!

Thank you for the nice welcomes! :)

I got up an hour late this morning and knew I was pressed for time, so I hustled out the door to get my run in (W7D1 of C25k). Hubby needed to leave by 7:00 and when I got to the 24 min mark I realized I was really pushing it time wise, so instead of stopping at 25 mins, I just kept running. When I got home I checked my watch--29:04!! :carrot: I was stoked! I didn't get my cool down in, but I felt pretty good anyway--I'll be sure to get it in on Thursday. ;)

I've decided that now that I know I can run for 29 mins, I'm going for the whole enchilada. I'm going straight to Week 9 and not looking back. :running: The 5K I signed up for is just a couple of weeks away and I want to be sure I can run the whole thing! :)

mkroyer 09-15-2009 02:20 PM

Fatpants--- theres no need to feel dissapointed about your time!! you did AWESOME!! that was your first EVER race, right? You know what i think you should do? (now this is just me, becuz i LUV to run in races) i think you should finad another one, like for this weekend.....your already trained to run a 5k, you KNOW you can do it, and you also KNOW you can do better! I know you signed up for one in october, but there are literally like DOZENS of 5ks in the denver area every weekend!! the more you race, the more confident you will be in your ability to push yourself!! Promise you will stop dwelling on that race..... you did great!!!!!
also, i think switching your long run to the weekend is a great idea... it will take the stress out of it all. PLUS it will allow youmore time so you can BACK OFF YOUR PACE!! If you want to run longer, like, right now, just run SLOWER. SERIOUSLY. Doesnt matter how slow/fast you normally run, just back off like a minute per mile slower, or so. thats the key to running long, at least when you are first starting out. it is probably not 75% mental.....id be willing to bet its 100% mental. i know you have the physical ability to run longer. Your brain tells your body its tired, and that it doesnt want to. Seriously. what another, lets say 10 minutes of running? When you normally finish your runs are you physically unABLE to take another step?? No. Get comfortable being uncomfortable ;) GO FOR IT!!
How abot this saturday? Run for 5 miles!!! i dare you!! I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU! :) Youll rock it ( at a slightly slower pace)

mkroyer 09-15-2009 02:21 PM

CAKE--- We MISSED you!!!! <3

TakingCharge 09-15-2009 10:50 PM

Mk - Thanks for the encouragement! Luckily, my 10K course is pretty flat so I don't have to worry about hills, though I'm sure they'd help my endurance! So I was all excited about running with a group today and I literally sped over there through traffic after class and it turns out that it's basically just a hydration station where people meet up after the run, but everyone runs on their own. I didn't have the patience to wait around and try to make new friends so I just drove home and ran around my neighborhood. I'm proud that I made it out though and didn't just collapse on my couch cuz I was already pretty tired. I only made it 3.6 miles (outside though!) and had to take a short walk break (had some minor bowel rumblings due to eating way to soon before running!!), but overall I'm happy I got in a run. I have either intervals or tempo run tomorrow so that should be fun. I'll probably stick with the treadmill for that, but I like having more outdoor runs. Hopefully I'll see improvement in my stamina pretty quickly. How's the smoke free day going??

IDream - Great job on running 29 minutes!!! I'm all for pushing yourself so if you feel like you can skip to a higher week in the program, go for it. BUT, having said that, please please listen to your body. If you start feeling minor aches in your shins or hips or knees, try to back off a little bit, maybe just a week or so. Honestly, I think you'll be totally fine but just make sure not to push it too hard. Keep up the good work!

Any other runs to report?

CakeBatter 09-16-2009 07:50 AM

Mk~ No judgement here.......I'm a smoker too. 3 a day....eek I know it is terrible and most people don't even know I smoke but my main fear is like you...gaining weight. Anyway let you know as soon as I join you. Congratulations on quitting! BTW that pep to Fat Pants was really helpful to me as well thanks. ANd I missed you guys too

TC~ That's kind of funny but it is awesome you made it and even more awesome that you still went out for a run. WTG

iDream~ Yay for 29 minutes of continuous running! Look out week 9 iDream is coming to conquer!

Fat Pants ~ That is totally how I started running longer...yeah I just ran slower. Once I had an acceptable base (for me) I then started working on speed. and I am still slow but Good Gracious I have come a loooooong way!

Okay I so mega proud of myself for two reasons.

1. I have finally run a consistent 10:42 miles for 3 MILES (see I told I am still slow but I am so happy to be under 11:06 I don't know what to do)

2. I didn't feel like going to run yesterday so instead I took a nap (like an hour). When I woke up I felt bad for not running and was to eat something (emotional eater here ) but instead I told myself if I only run 3 miles then I would have done SOMETHING and then I can quit. Well I did my 3 miles at a 10:42 PACE :carrot: and I did quit :o but only because I got to the gym so late and absolutely had to be back at the house for by 8:00! :D

sharongracepjs 09-16-2009 10:09 AM

This morning's run: 2.75 miles!!!!

This means I am just one short lap away from the 5K distance - and that's a good feeling, since I am also just 5 short days away from my first 5K!

MK, congrats on quitting smoking!!!! That takes a lot of courage!!! I am impressed and I know you can do it!

Lizzyg 09-16-2009 11:41 AM

MK - congrats on quitting!

Good luck sharongracepjs on your 5k!!

Great job on the 10:42, CB!

I did a short run this am - .5 mile walk/run and then ran 1 mile. It took me 11:45 for the 1 mile, which I think is my fastest time. I just wish I could do that for a 5k.

TakingCharge 09-16-2009 12:44 PM

Cake - Way to go on your new consistent pace!! It's great when you can actually sustain a faster pace. It just means you're getting that much better and stronger! Congrats!

Sharon - Woohoo! You're sooo close to 5K distance, and I bet endorphins will get you most of the way anyway! Good luck this weekend!

Lizzy - Great job on your run this morning. You WILL be able to sustain that pace for a 5K, just in a matter of time, so be patient and keep working up to it. You'll be there before you know it!

I went on another run this morning, which is really unusual for me to run so frequently, but I'm loving it! Hopefully my body won't protest. I did intervals today and did 3.5 miles in 33:33. Not bad, but I'd like to get my intervals faster. This was the breakdown: 1mile warm up (10:00min/mile), 4X400 at 9:50, 9:20, 8:50, 8:30 with 2 min cool downs in between each at (10:00), and then 0.5mile cool down (10:00). What do you guys think? Should I push myself to do the intervals faster? I was pretty tired by that last one but I wasn't totally out of breath or anything. Still trying to figure all this out! :)

Thanks all, for your support on the quitting smoking thing!!!! Been about 30 hours now, since i last smoked!! im starting to feel a little edgy and overly "sensitive". I will keep going though, becuz this time its for ME, and I want this, not doing it for someone else!
TakingCharge--- excellent intervals!! i LOVE the negative splits you ran (increasingly getting faster) If you want to make it harder (you said it didnt KILL you) try making all 4 of them at that 8 30 pace, and see how you feel after the fourth one. REALLY GREAT workout though!!!

guess what all? i PUKED today for the the first time EVER while running!!

My trainer had me testing out this new workout/run hes putting together for me...basically its a very fast Lactic Acid run, where i run 1 miles intervals (with no rest in between em, just one mile flows into the next) of increasing speed, starting at a 10K pace and going down faster for 3 miles and then 1 miel at marathon (slow) pace and then repeat. So i warmed up, first mile 9:20, second mile 7:10 (a LITTLE fast for 10K but not by much) next mile 6:50 (now im cookin'--and starting to feel it) NEXT mile i drop down to approx 6:35 pace, hit the quarter mile and BLEEECHHHHH!!!! all over the road went my water and morning coffee!! the rest of my run did not go so hot.....only 5.25 miles this am...but i ran a 12 mile lactic acid threshold run yesterday, and i run ANOTHER 12 mile LA Threshold run tomorrow....

Body Image Issues

Do any of you experience any body image issues still? Especialyl those of you whove lost alot, or are close to or at goal??
WHen i look at myslef in the mirror, i DO NOT see the skinny person i KNOW everyone else sees. I still "feel" fat and "see" fat. i may be minus a muffin top but there are no shortages of laces where i feel like im still fat. Rationally i KNOW im not, and that gets verified in little ways everyday. For instance i went jeans shopping a couple weeks ago, and suddenly ALL the size 5 juniors jeans fit me! ANnd they are all LOOSE (around the middle at least, my quadzilla quadriceps wont allow me to get into anything smaller) in any case, i KNOW a person who wears size 5 is not fat, but when i look in the mirror i dont "see" someone who wers that size, even when im WEARING that size!! :) Last night 2 things happend that really caught me off guard. I went to the local annual ski clothes and gear sale at gart sprts (SNIAGRAB)--thats bargains spelled backwards :) cuz i knew my old ski clothes werent going to fit anymore. I start pulling medium ski pants off the rack....nope, noway too big, didnt fit!! Went back, grabbed 7 or 8 SMALL sized ski pants, tried em on,------NOPE, too BIG. iam too big for a size small now....i dont get it, and i dont see it....... the other thing, i was training with my traininer and this lady walked up to us, in the gym and said "sorry, but i just had to interrupt (to me). I just wanted to tell you that you are the BEST looking person in here! You have such incredible muscle definition and look absolute fantastic!" No, i dont think she was hitting on me ;) I thought she was joking. I turned to my trainer and laughed and asked him if hed paid her to come up to me and say that!
sorry for the long post....when will my brain catch up to my body though>?

MK...your training sessions sound so intense! I am very inspired - running those kind of drills at the beginning of kicking cigarettes - no wonder you barfed!? I'm very inspired that you even kept going! Awesome!!

I know what you mean about brain/body disharmony. I think it goes both ways, though - i look at my "Before" pic (just 25 lbs ago!!) and I think "WOW. I was FAT." and I know at the time I was in denial about how much weight I had put on - but maybe I'm skewing it now, too, in retrospect, because my priorities have changed so much over the past couple months?!

Thanks for the cheers, Lizzy and TakingCharge! I will be sure to update you on how it goes!

Mk - First off, a big  I'm sorry that your run today was kind of a bust (even though you put up some amazing times!), but I kind of feel like it has a lot to do with the lack of smoking. Obviously, it's a GREAT decision and will pay off in the near future, but from what I've heard, the first few days/weeks just wreak havoc on your body, so I would just chalk it up to that and have an awesome run tomorrow! In terms of body image, there's not a week that goes by where I don't have at least one "fat" day. My brain hasn't caught up to my body in terms of weight loss and I'll see recent pictures of myself and think, "there's no way I'm that skinny, it must just be a good picture". I think it's natural and ok though to have bad days where you don't feel gorgeous and fit, but I think the way you cope with them is really important. You've learned so much and come so far on your weight loss/running journey and you are an incredibly strong person now because of it (you haven't smoked in 30 hours, there's your proof!). As long as you take the bad days with a grain of salt and embrace the good days where you feel confident, sexy and skinny, then I think the good days will start outweighing the bad. Please, please do something nice for yourself today because my goodness woman, we all know you deserve it!
