Exercises you can do at home ?

I tried searching the forums for this but I couldn't find anything, so I apologize if this is a topic that has already been addressed.

Does anyone have ideas of exercises I could do at home that do not cost ?

I just don't have the money for a gym, I don't have a treadmill or an elliptical or anything like that. I do have a couple pilates and yoga DVD's and I do those but I need something that will get the heart pumping a little more. And those of you that work out at home, what do you do ? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks girls ~

I used to walk, and I gradually got faster, and now I run.

Cheap, easy, not weather dependent (I just get wet if it rains!), and no equipment necessary.

You don't need to do fancy exercises or dvds. You just need to get out there and do it.

Run. And if you can't run, walk. And then run.

Thank you :)

I actually do walk 2 miles 6 days a week and I've just started running as well. But the past couple weeks it's been 100+ degrees, even at 7pm. And because of the Angeles Forest fire there is ash and smoke in the air, so it hasn't been easy to get outside the past few days.

So I'm just looking for things I can do inside to supplement when I'm not outside walking/running :)

Here is the thread. I no longer walk outdoors...was wondering for YEARS why I would have a good 3 weeks and then get SICK w/ a sinus infection/bronchitis...I am alergic to most grass and just about every plant/tree here in the desert! lol I love tapes and my exercise bike! Yes, I go walking just late in the evening and not as often as I used to.

There are some PBS workout programs you might want to check out in your local listings.

Other than that I would say dance at home if you can't go out. Put on your favorite tunes and cut a rug! It's great exercise and fun too.

As Wannabeskinny said there are TV programs...
Google «bodyweight workouts» and you'll get several sites on examples of workouts with just body strength...
Yoga is a great bodyweight workout, you can find programs on TV about that too...

I was going to suggest something similar. If you have cable TV (verizon/comcast or anything else) there are free workouts there on demand. Also, if you have netflix membership (or someone you know who has it) you can rent workout DVDs from them. Google for some workout at home stuff also check out You Tube.

Can you get some exercise/resistance bands? I don't know how much your budget is but if you can buy them then it should give you a very versatile workout.

There's always walking outside and running. Couch to 5K is a program lot of people have had success with.

Do you have access to stairs? Walk/run up and down few times for certain amount of time.

I workout at home but I invested in a treadmill and free weights (over time). I also go run at the nearby HS track some times.

HTH :)

Great ideas, Thank you gals so much. Now I have some more ideas to go off of. I was just needing some more variety throughout my day because we go walking/running in the evening.

I will be checking our Charter TV listings and see what we have going on. I'll also look into getting some resistance bands to help with the variety. And thank you for the thread link, I am going to check it out right now :)

Check your library for workout videos too.

I love going for a long walk , if you have a MP3 player create a play list with 3 fast songs then a slow song, then 3 fast songs, and continue the pattern,

when the fast songs come on you'll walk faster without noticing it and the slow song means you'll also get a breather, and if you live close to a hill even better.

I also recommend putting on a album you love and dancing round your house like an idiot...it really gets the heart going before a walk
