Swimming?
Does anybody hear do any swimming? I LOVE the water but not really sure where to go to do laps maybe 3 times a week. Does anybody else swim? And if so, where do you go and what types of workouts do you do in the pool?

I haven't been swimming as often anymore. But I do swim. I have access to a pool at the YMCA but they keep the water too warm for laps in my opinion. I usually try to swim at my work (GSU Student Recreation Center). Basically, a gym is going to be your best place for lap swimming. Public pools tend to be over-crowded with kids and most will close after labor day. I also occasionally do a shallow water fitness class, but I like swimming laps better.

I swim laps 1 day a week for 60-90 minutes at my Y. I would swim more often but it's such a popular place that difficult to get a lap lane more than once a week.

I was just looking at the Masters Swimming programs in my area. That offers you a coach that sets up appropriate workouts for your level and lets you swim with other adults. Looks like it is usually very early or in the evening around my area. Google for your state's association to find a local group.

I found lots of public pools in my area that have designated times and lanes for lap swimming simply by googling "pools" and the name of my county (or you could use the name of your city if you live in a large enough city). Or try googling "lap swim" and the name of your county or city.
Looking for your local Masters swim program is also a good idea. Even if you don't want to swim with them, the pool where they swim may have public lap swim. And they tend to swim at pools that are designed for competitive swimming (at least 25 yards, deep, kickboards available, backstroke flags, proper edge to the pool, appropriate water temperature, etc.), which is my preference for swimming laps. |
