Pole Dancing
Has anyone ever taken a pole dancing class? I was just looking to see how well it works and if anyone knows if it can be done if you are plus size. The studio I am considering going to says that they accept all shapes and sizes but I am a little leary. Thanks in advance!

I take belly dance, which is awesome by the way. And in class this week, a super fit, skinny girl was talking about how she had taken a few pole dancing lessons and she said it was difficult because of the upper body strength needed. I was bummed because I really want to try it but have no strength in my arms due to injuries. Don't mean to sound discouraging, just sharing what she had mentioned.

Well, as one of the few guys around… I just have to chime in.
My wife got us a pole for my birthday. I can confirm she works up a sweat on that thing. She is a tiny thing, but I would think you would burn even more calories if you are a “plus size” as you say. A couple of comments though… the mounted poles probably have a greater weight limit then the portable ones. Also, I would recommend the kind that rotates itself. My wife liked it better and it just makes you look more graceful. :spin: But I say go for it!!! Have fun! After all, isn’t that what it is all about? Can we discuss my wife’s belly dancing next?!?! :belly: |
Could you go watch a class first and see how it looks? If not, I say GO FOR IT! What is there to lose other than some body fat? ;)

I think if they say they accept all shapes then they are probably very non-judgmental and just want you to have fun, go for it!

There is definitely no harm in checking it out! The only person stopping you from going to the class is you!

Sounds fun! I haven't done anything and am fairly certain there isn't anything offered in my area. However, I know belly dancing works. My MIL is an avid fan! She even preforms at events in the area. :)

I've taken a couple pole classes. You should be able to at least do the super basic stuff. But the majority of the moves require A LOT of upper body strength and body control. But it's fun, even if you aren't great at it!

Go for it! Best fun ever! ;)
Also, there should be introductory classes. You could participate for the one day and then decide if it's for you or not before you pay for a full session. Enjoy... |
