Beginner runner ??
I started running a couple weeks ago. I'm on the "couch to runner" program. In it, it says to rest every other day. What do you do on your off days, do you exercise?
I'm trying to lose weight, so I know with this program or at least in the stage I'm at, I know I'm not burning a lot of calories. This week I started running or jogging for 2 minutes. I just wonder if I should do more or be patient b/c soon I will be able to burn more calories. |
Hey there! I'm a beginner runner doing the C25K program too. Right now, I'm trying to work in 1 30 Day Shred video workout and 1 yoga workout on my off days, although the last time I tried the 30DS workout I was so sore I couldn't do much of anything the next day!! I'm hoping that the yoga and strengthening will help train different muscles and prevent running injuries - we'll see.

I would walk and/or do weight training on at least some of those days. Your weight loss will be helped by weight training. Your running will be helped by walking or other low impact cardiovascular exercise.

I second the weight training!!

I do a workout video 6 days a week. I started the c25k program 6 weeks ago and let me say it works! There may be times you want to skip ahead, but don't. This program has success for a reason. When I started I thought I would never be able to run 20 minutes, but I did 2 nights ago. I know I am not burning a ton of calories running right now with the running, but that doesn't bother me. I take pride in the fact that I am getting fitter and fitter everyday, and supplementing the workout videos and eating right are helping me cut the calories.
Good luck with the program. I signed up for my first 5k, and I cannot thank this program enough for getting me to the point where I know I can do it! |
