Excercise on an empty stomach?

I'm going in for some blood work tomorrow but tomorrow was going to be the first time in days that I was going to have a chance to work out in the morning. But I'm not allowed to eat after midnight. Do you think it would be okay to work out on an empty stomach or should I wait and hope I have more time later in the week. Also would working out have a negative impact on any tests they might run (blood pressure etc). Thanks!

Working out does have a temporary raising effect on blood pressure, so keep that in mind for your tests.

I almost always do my morning workout on an empty stomach...eating first just doesn't sit well with me. But some people, if they attempt to work out on an empty stomach, get dizzy or nauseous. Until you've tried it, you don't know how your body will react. I'd say to try it and stop if you start not feeling well.

I would say if you are doing tests, don't workout right before. I know its a shame that you miss an opportunity for working out but not sure what effect it could have on your tests.

I agree that you probably shouldn't workout because of your test. However, I workout in the morning for 60 to 90 minutes on an empty stomach. It took some getting used to but I like it much better than eating before I go workout.

My doctor always recommends I do not work out before my monthly blood tests.

Now on a normal day I normally don't eat until after I work out if I work out on morning.

I would say not workout if you have tests. but on other days it is much better to not eat before you work out. I have read and been told it is not good to eat right before you workout because of all the energy your body needs to digest food. Plus I think if you eat after working out, when your body is in that high burn mode it will burn more of the calories that you eat, my opinion on that one.

Don't know about how it will affect results of the test, but I always work out first thing in the morning before I have anything to eat (although I do drink water). Never been a problem for me.

Thanks! I work out some mornings before I eat if I'm only doing like a mile but if I'm doing 5K (which is what I was hoping for tomorrow) I tend to have just a little something first or eat immediately when I get back. In this case I wouldn't be able to eat until much later in the morning. Ah well maybe it will cool off enough tonight I can go for a bike ride or something. Thanks everyone!
