Wii Fit

I'm thinking of purchasing the Wii Fit. I'm trying to increase my exercise any way I can. If this is the thing for me, I'll go for it. Before I do, I'd like to get feedback from those of you who have used or are using this. Please share your pros and cons, tips, success stories, etc.

Thanks in advance...

Pros: It is fun, a different way to exercise, and I enjoy it. The yoga is GREAT, rhythm boxing is fun, and hula hoop is a good workout. It was a wonderful change from my DVD workouts, and I'm glad I bought it. The balance board is used by other "games" including We Ski and Gold's Gym Cardio Workout.

But ...

Cons: You can't put together a "routine" so it is cumbersome to stop every 1-3 minutes and select another exercise. There is a lot of wasted time. Until you unlock the advanced routines, there aren't a lot of cardio options. It gets "old" after a while. I go back to my Wii Fit as a break from "My Fitness Coach" and "Gold's Gym Cardio Workout" - particularly for the yoga and keeping track of my stats - but after 6 months, I'm not finding it something I want to do on a regular basis.

CountingDown:

Thanks for the tips. I'm so new to this. Every little tip helps. :)

Question for ya? The other two programs you mentioned, are they compatible with Wii Fit or something totally different?

Counting sums it up well. If you want a good cardio work out do something else. I enjoy the boxing but even the super advanced option is only 10 minutes and then you have to have a break to either move onto something else or repeat the programme. I enjoy the advanced step but it barely gets me glowing and I'm no fit expert. I too enjoy the yoga and the balance games can be fun but I'm not sure that they'd burn many calories.

The best thing about the Wii Fit for me though is that its very accessible anytime I want to do it!

i brought the wii fit yesterday and i love it.

i do think that if you are looking for an intense workout wii fit isn't for you. i think wii fit is for people who are looking for a low to medium workout.

many of the games are quite fun. i would definitely recommend this to people who have kids and want them to be active. because kids would love it.

I used the fit to get started on working out. It's great for beginning and for days that maybe you don't have a lot of time or energy like TOM or something like that. However, Gold Gym Cardio, My Fitness Coach and EA Active sports all use the wii and/or wii fit board so I highly recommend buying it and when you can add these "games" as well.

I would get EA Active [$60] and Gold's Cardio Gym [$20].....you'll get a better workout from the two of them, for the same price as Wii Fit.

"My Fitness Coach" does not use the balance board. "Gold's Gym" has an option to use it for some of the exercises - the program is totally usable without it.

I just bought the Wii & WiiFit and the Sports Active games. So far I love them. I have to do the tests though. Right now I'm getting used to using the thing as I am a game newbie. LOL

I think I spent waaaay too much time making Mii's for me & DH. My Mii is chubby. I look forward to making skinnier ones as I lose weight.

As someone who is heavy, very out of shape & trying to get into a regular exercise routine, I think these will be very helpful. I hope to start the 30-day challenge next month. :)

I just got EA Sports Active, and I did one of the preset workouts and I think it is way better than Wii Fit. There is less stopping, plus EA gives you total calories burned on every screen. I love it. I'm gonna try and do it in addition to walking at least 4 times a week. I think Wii Fit is more "fun" type workouts, I like the hula hoop on it, but in my opinion EA will give a better work out.

Thanks Smoochie! :)

I so need to check out all of these various programs! The good thing is I'm beginning to incorporate outdoor activities as my favorite season is fast approaching us. It's about time for me to hit the great outdoors. However, I need to have an indoor activity to fallback on.

I have had a Wii Fit since Christmas, and was on it every day for a while, but then fell out of routine, mainly because I like to get 30 minutes of Wii time, which works out to over an hour of real time because you have to stop and keep telling it what to do next.

I agree, this isn't great for cardio. HOWEVER, it's awesome doing the yoga and the balance games, because it does a great job of toning my core muscles, which I don't get when I go on the treadmill at the gym. That is the big plus for me. Just something else for you to consider.

Thanks GL Chick!! :)
