I had this argument lately with my boyfriend. I was doing a fitness DVD and they did pre workout stretches whereas I was just walking in place. He noticed and asked why. I tried to explain that you need to warm up by doing a lighter paced activity, not stretches. He disagreed since "they must know better".
What do you think? Should you stretch before, after, or both? Do you even warm up?
I went further and googled it. I found a great article from NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/02/sp...in&oref=slogin (will have to join but it's free and quick). They say you should do a light jog (40% of your heart rate) and dynamic stretches. Now, I have to google dynamic stretches.

I thought that static stretching before a workout had pretty conclusively been linked to HIGHER risk of injuries, and I'm surprised your workout DVD was set up like that!
I should get back into the dynamic stretching, I do think it's worthwhile.
