Gymless workouts?

What do you girls do for exercise thats not in a gym and is not running? I need a way to workout for the next 3 months that does not involve a gym and I hate running. Perferably something outdoors?

Walking is an excellent exercise.

simple things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator.. parking in corners of lots.. and fun activities like rollerblading, bike riding and tennis

I walk 40-60 minutes a day. Either down to the post office box and around the neighborhood, making every loop available, until I get to the gas station and pick up a newspaper and go home, OR up the road to the bank or library and back. Give yourself a purpose and destination at the furthest point away and the walk is a lot less boring. I never tell myself I'm walking for exercise; only that I'm going to this place or that place and there's no reason to drive because it's so close and gas is so expensive.

+1 on simply walking. It's even better if you have a somewhat energetic dog to take along (one that can keep up with you at any speed)

I like simply walking the jogging loops at local parks, but I really enjoy going "hiking". In inner Houston that mostly means finding the single-track mountain bike trails with lots of ups and downs. It feels like you're out in nature, but you're never more than a mile or two from the parking lot. I enjoy longer hikes in the state forest on weekends, but they're too far away to get to often. I also don't like hiking in the state forest alone.

Bicycling is also fun. Other ideas: do you have any local sports leagues? Softball? Soccer? Ultimate Frisbee? These will all help get you moving.

Pilates
Yoga
Walking
Biking
Swimming
If you don't want to be outside, pop in a dvd or video of ANYTHING that gets you moving.

Here's one I read in TBL 30 day jumpstart book: While watching TBL, do jumping jacks during the commercials. You will burn 30 calories during each 3 minute break. There are 10 commercial breaks...so that adds up to a whopping 300 calories...just for getting off the couch during the commercials...instead of going into the kitchen:dancer:

i prefer boxing and bike riding. I found a wave master on craigslist for 25.00, its great for cardio and toning, i keep it on my covered patio.

thanks so much for all the advice! I was seeming a bit lost as to what to do.

I use Leslie Sansone Walk at Home dvds, they have different tapes starting at one mile and going up to 5 miles. They take between 20 minutes and an hour and I feel really good afterwards. You can get them on the website or at Target and WalMart, and they're a good price too. Let me know if you try them!

I take walks on the beach barefoot for the extra sand resistance factor or through the neighborhood including as many hills as possible. I also have a fave hiking spot once or twice a week. I have yoga and belly-dancing DVDs, but I don't run them nearly enough. It's nice to exercise outdoors surrounded by beautiful nature.

You can also add body weight exercises like pushups, dips, crunches, squats, and lunges to help develop muscles if you don't have weights. I just started working towards doing 100 pushups a day with the program shown on hundredpushups.com, they also have one for 200 sit ups(crunches) and 200 squats. Good luck! :)

How about this, posted by someone else on this site but I don't remember who...

"You can get an excellent workout with bodyweight.

Now this guy is well... a guy, but if you do the work, you should get good results.

Do each of the following for 1 minute each:

pushups
sit ups
jumping jacks
pushups
squats
jumping jacks
squats

Thanks guys, I figured out things to do but I appreciate it.

Hiking is by far my favorite exercise. I go out and find a tough trail with lots of ups and downs, climbing, uneven footing, rocks, things like that. Not sure what you have there in FL for hiking but I'm sure you could find a few places!
