10000 steps a day

Does anyone do 10,000 steps a day?I starting doing it to insure that I was getting off the couch and moving enough. Is it better to go for a walk and get it all in at once or do it little by little throughout the day?:carrot:

I don't but I have co-worker that does and she just keeps track of her steps through out the day. She also gets up during the day and goes to gym that we have in the building and gets on the treadmill. She does that a couple of times a day - for about 10 -20 minutes at time.

By the end of the work day - she will see how close she is so that she can decide what she is going to do to get those steps in before she goes to bed.

Good luck with your stepping!

I have at least a 2 mile walk in my day if I want to hit at least 10,000. Even though I run errands, take care of 5 kids, etc throughout the day I have a sedentary desk job so there's just no way that I could get in 10,000 without going for a walk.

I got a pedometer a couple of weeks ago, and was *shocked* at how few steps I take in a regular day. I'm going to have to put in a lot more effort to get to 10,000. Unfortunately it doesn't measure what I do in a spin class, though.

It is not easy

I am supposed to get in over 10000 steps a day. I can do it when I am working. I am a nurse and I feel as though all I do is run the halls of the PCH and I do. BUT when I am at home I hardly ever sit until the evening. I average around 8000 steps. I go on a walk after supper too. I cant wait for spring so I can be outside all of the time. Oh by the way does anyone know how to convert a work out on a home gym into steps? I cant find it anywhere.:?:

I have been trying to walk outside when the weather is nice.
I usually try to get in 10000 throughtout the day.About once an hour I try get up for 5 or 10minutes and walk around the house. If nothing it else it keeps me active.I really wish that it would get nice out so that I would be able to walk outside more.:carrot:

I bought a pedometer but haven't hooked it up yet! I am curious how many steps I get. I often walk about 1.2 miles total to and from work, and often another 2 miles total to and from lunch on top of that. But not always. I try to walk as briskly as possible to have a better effect, but I don't consider it my "exercise" for the day. It's just bonus activity. I think it really does make me feel better to get this extra activity in a various points in the day, even if I did actually do a real running workout in the morning.

I usually get around 12,000+ a day; I use the elliptical for 40 minutes in the morning, take my dogs for a 1.5 mile walk in the evening, and have a job that I'm constantly on my feet.

Does your pedometer register your elliptical workout?

Yes, though I honestly am not sure how accurate it is. In general, about 2,000 steps of my stride is a mile, though on the elliptical it usually disagrees with the readout; my pedometer logs about 1.25 miles less than the elliptical says. Honestly though, I think that it's probably the elliptical that's off, not my pedometer.

I started the New Year off with a pedometer and exceeded 10 000 steps a few times. I usually managed at least 8000. Then I fell and sprained my ankle and am only now able to walk normally, though longish walks with the dog leave the damaged ankle aching!

I have started wearing the pedometer again and want to reach 10 000 a day, every day asap!

i have a job that allows me a little "free" time to walk the halls off and on so i get in my 10000 through out the day by taking several short walks,

If you want to convert other exercises to "steps," look at the book Step Diet. It comes with a pedometer sometimes. I saw it at Kroger on sale and it has an appendix with conversions for swimming, biking, etc
