Do you usually eat after you work out? I try to eat something little before the gym but sometimes Im so hungry afterwards. Do you think it helps or hurts your weightloss?
From what I understand, your body is still running super fast after a workout and it's actually the best time to eat, as long as you're eating healthy (ie lean protein, veggies, etc). My personal trainer suggested eating a small carbohydrate-filled snack before the workout (like a banana) for some extra energy and the protein afterward.
Plus, the way my schedule is, I HAVE to eat after my workouts. I go straight from work to the gym then commute home and make dinner, so as long as I make chicken and spinach then I think that's fine - and I haven't noticed any bad effects yet!
If you eat before exercise you should leave it atleast 1 - 2 hours before you start - this gives your digestion system a chance. t also prevents a stitch if you are doing cardio.
As for after - it depends what exercise you are doing - if you are doing weights then your metabolism is going fast for up to 3 hours after the session and cardio its going fast for 1 hour after the sessions - or 'the magic hour'. This means that what you get in these time frames is more likely to be burnt of quicker due to metabolic rate.
Thanks that helps me a lot! The best time for me to eat is after the gym too because I go there straight from work. I do eat something small a couple hours before I go too. Thanks for your help!
