discouraged by exercise for weight loss....

If this isn't the pitts, I don't know what is :(

Apparently the incline adjuster on my treadmill isn't working :?:

Speed works fine, just not the incline part. So I still did a 45 minute workout this afternoon, just not at the intensity I'd like with the incline.

My birthday's not for awhile, but my mother said as a nice b-day gift she'd buy me a pair of running shoes from a good running store we're both familiar with.

So that leaves me wondering how I can keep going at an aerobic pace since I've read enough material and heard from people on this forum that it's not a good idea to start running until I'm fitted with proper running shoes... it's still also too cold for me to exercise outside (we just had a drizzle of snow the other day).

I guess I could do walking & short sprints on the treadmill with my regular exercise shoes to build up a good sweat. **I have a balance problem, so I'd have to cheat at first during sprints and hold onto the railings... groans.

Once I get my yoga mat in the mail sometime next week, I can start to lift weights and that'll help me burn a little more calories than beforehand.

A friend of mine suggested buying a mini stepper since there's cheap ones on the internet.

***I've heard of mini steppers, not sure if they burn calories (or enough calories) for a proper workout. Are mini steppers effective if done right?

I just ... it's just on top of a bad string of things as of late, and I'm trying my dangest to keep losing weight here. :(

Aw tea I'm sorry you're having issues with your incline! That really stinks! What a bummer! Personally I do the whole walk thing with short sprints on the treadmill too (and I'm heavier than you!) and get a pretty good work out from it though it doesn't keep my heart rate elevated as much as the incline does but you do what you gotta do. If all else fails you can do the cardio/restistance training type circuit thing in your house like Jillian Michaels does in her videos. ** I suggest that since I know you commented on threads that talk about her new dvds** I can't think of too much more in the way of options since my brain is kinda dead :faint: from reading 40 pages of my nutrition test book, but if I think of anything else I'll post back here. Chin up buttercup!

As long as you're not leaning any weight on the handrails, using the rails for balance isn't exactly cheating.

No worries tea I was finished! That's why my brain was mush and I couldn't seem to word things right. :tied: I'm sorry to say that I haven't had a chance to think of anything new for you but I hope some of those suggestions work if you give em a chance. :) :) :) :)

Hi tea  ... Do you have stairs near your treadmill ? In between fast sprints you could do the stairs for a minute or two then go back to the treadmill, alternate that way to get your heart rate up...

Maybe you could convince her to give you the shoes early for the benefit of your health.
