Do you exercise when you're really sore?

I'm new at keeping up a routine several days a week. I really kicked my own butt yesterday and today my butt (go figure!) and legs really hurt! But I didn't want to skip the exercise either so I got back on the stepper and watched Biggest Loser on tivo :D 25 mins stepping later and I'm not sore!

So do you take time off when you're sore? Push through? And will I be DYING tomorrow??

Yup- as long as you overdo it you should be fine- I hear it helps push out the crystals that cause some of the soreness faster.

I know when I do weights I do upper body one day then lower the next, and with my cardio I'd just do my elliptical or whatever normal, as long as I wasn't in PAIN then it was fine.

I always push through it. The one time I didn't was when I went mountain climbing and physically could not drive my car. That was the most sore I have ever been in my life. I put too much weight on my arms.

Well, as long as you just did cardio on the sore body parts it's okay. You do want to give your muscles time to rest and heal after a workout with the bigger muscles (butt, quads) getting 48 hours of rest and the smaller ones at least 24.

Running or the elliptical after leg day should be fine, lunges 24 hours after leg day not so much.

Depends on the kind of soreness. Stiff all over achy muscles absolutely, lower intensity than usual though. Low intensity cardio to flush out the stuff and restore blood flow.

Pinpoint pain, no.

Thanks everybody! I'm sure I'm fine just didn't want to accidentally do something stupid... :dizzy:

this makes a lot of sense! i think rather than trying to do everything in one day every single day i'm going to start alternating upper and lower body days. thanks for the tip!
