Nutrition for Running Question
I have just started really getting into running and there is so much that I don't know. My question has to do with earing for running. Everything that I have read says that your diet should be 50% carb, 25% protein and 25% fat. I eat really clean for the most part....processed foods are really kept at a complete minimum. I don't eat much red meat - actually I don't eat much meat, poultry or fish at all.
I have actually signed up for a race in May and I want to do the best that I can. Between running, biking, cross-ramp and the elliptical I am putting in between 35-40 miles a week and I am working on increasing that amount. So - my question to you - what do you consider the staples of your diet? |
When I was training for races I would always keep my carbs to slow burning for my long runs and then quick burning sugars for my fartleks and speed training.
I always had black and kidney beans in my kitchen. They're easy to make and easy to throw into whatever you're eating at the moment. Almonds are really good as well. Runner's World Magazine online has a huge amount of really good info. I don't have enough posts to link you but if you google Runners World Magazine and then click the bar that says nutrition, it'll take you to some really great stuff. |
