what the hek is spinning>>>?????
|
Spinning is a group exercise class on stationary bicycles where an instructor leads you through a workout , usually with music. It's a great workout and most people love it.
It's a great alternative for people who want an instructor led class but are afraid they do not have the coordination for a regular aerobics class. Everyone has enough coordination to ride a stationary bicycle. A class accomodates all fitness levele because you control the resistance level of the bicycle. The advanced people use a harder resistance while the beginners have a easier resistance. And no one can tell what level your bicycle is set at, so everyone lookes like an expert! Try one, most people love 'em! |
I love spinning! I go twice a week, luckily our gym has an actual competitive CYCLIST (as opposed to an aerobics instructor with a spinning certification) teaching the 6:00 am classes. Curt really is a motivator - he races both road and cyclocross on the weekends and has done those "24 Hours of Adrenaline" endurance events as well. It's important to have an instructor that keeps the class interesting and motiviating, otherwise it can get really boring!

Mrs Jim,
Is spinning also called Group Cycle at 24 Hr Fitness? I did spinning at the Y in the east but haven't found a club that has anything called Spinning here in No. Cal. |
Yeah, THEY call it Group Cycling but all of us regulars in class (including Curt, our instructor!) call it Spinning.
The term "Spinning" is owned by Schwinn who first marketed Johnny G's concept. 24 Hour Fitness (at least the one I belong to) uses a different bike, manufactured by Keiser and they don't have the right to call it 'spinning'. There are about four major manufacturers out there making spinning-type bikes, including StairMaster (which has Tour de France cyclist Greg LeMond as a consultant), Reebok, Keiser and of course Schwinn...
