Conversion stationary bike miles to walking miles
HI,
I am no longer able to walk well(back issues) and my doc wants me to stationary bike. Does anyone know how many stationary bilke miles it would take to equal one walking mile? I used to walk 4 miles a day just to maintain so now I am completely out of control. Now that I can't do it ,I really miss the walking. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS, Sheridan |
It's probably about 3 bike miles to 1 walking mile. Reasoning:
Walking burns about 110 calories per mile. Biking burns about 35 calories per mile. Also, a good brisk walking pace is about 4 miles per hour; a pretty good biking pace (for a non-athletic person riding solo) is about 12 miles per hour on the road. Probably more important is just biking at the same exertion level and for the same length of time as you were walking. |
I find that stationary biking is a little easier than walking, so I'd go as long as you can and not worry so much about the conversion.
