This is so embarrassing!
This is embarrassing to ask, but I am sure I am not alone. :o
I have just started training for a 5k, and I am having trouble with my thighs rubbing together. Can anybody offer any advice on preventing chafing? Recommendation of good running pants/shorts? Basically, any advice/recommendations/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :) |
I really shouldn't give you this secret...after yesterday's game rnntn ;)
My nephew had the same problem in our 5K today...but that was because he wears basketball shorts that ride up on him. My son ran cross country and track in high school and college...my daughter played tennis in high school and college...a lot of chafing between legs and under arms...I carried a tin of Bag Balm in a back-pack to every event...I was quite popular with the kids, especially in hot weather! They were always coming for a "scoop"! Not sure of other brands but the kids....especially college tennis girls...swore by it! Do you wear the "wick it" moisture away brands of clothing? That seems to help also. Happy un-rashing! ~ Gary |

Gary, you are so cute! It is too bad you are a UCLA & a Dodgers fan. Btw, I am a Mets fan. We are 0 for 2. Just curious, what is your favorite NFL team? Maybe, we can agree on this one. Thanks for the info. I bet you did come in handy. :)
Soulbliss, thank you. :) Next time, I am at Target I now have a shopping list. I am no longer embarrassed. Thanks, guys! |
there is only one team in pro football.......
RAIDERS! |
oh and rnntn...once you get to know me you will find out I am not that big on UCLA FOOTBALL....
since I was 10....44 years ago...it has always been UCLA BASKETBALL... USC FOOTBALL! |
Well, we are 0 for 3.
COWBOYS We are going to be buttin' heads all year long! ;) To tell how big of sports' fans we are, my hub & I have cats named Mets & Dallas, and my mother-in-law has a cat named Tiger. However, we do support any team that has a Memphis graduate on it; i.e. New Orleans Saints (Mike McKenzie), Philadelphia 76ers (Rodney Carney), etc.. I am looking forward to chattin' with ya. :) |

My DH got on the treadmill for the first time ever yesterday and did an hour. The only place he was sore was where his thighs rubbed. I warned him, lol. |
That is such a cool idea! Thanks, zinkemomx2. :)

I had the same problem (which for me was before I lost my 30+ lbs) whenever I worked out on the TM.
I found putting baby powder on my thighs where they rubbed stopped the chafing but since I was allergic to the regular Johnson's stuff I found a good natural talc powder at WholeFoods. It did the trick for me then but I haven't used it for ages now. |
Even when I was down to 120 pounds, my thighs rubbed together... I don't think any amount of weight loss would stop it. Maybe my legs are just set really close together? Anyway, I've figured out how to make myself comfortable.
I wear long, tight shorts (or capris, or tights in the winter) for running, for that reason. If you're not up to wearing them in public by themselves (it took me a while!), you can wear looser shorts over them and still not have nearly as much friction. Edited to add: most of my shorts are Under Armour Compression Shorts. I find that their fabric is my favorite for staying dry and cool, and a few times I've found a good deal on them on eBay. But chafing-wise, I don't think it matters much... my Target C9 capris and Danskin shorts both work just as well for me. |
The Body Glide stick is great. It looks like a stick of deodorant and you just rub it wherever you chafe. I put it on my inner thighs and it works wonderfully. My DH uses it on his chest area - his nipples have a tendancy to rub on his shirt (TMI????)
Hope this helps! |
