Insole Question

  • Does anyone have any suggestions for insoles that would be good for walk/jogging for a person who is overweight and has high arches with supination (rolling out)?

The custom orthotics my podiatrist gave me don't really help the supination.

    Thanks,

  • This isn't quite what you were looking for, but you should try to find a great pair of sneakers with lots of support. Go to a specialty running store and they can fit you for one that will really help you. It may be a bit pricier than just going to a department store or something, but I think it's worth it to find a great model of shoe. Then, I find them on sale for subsequent pairs
  • I've got the same problem, and I've found that the Mizuno Wave Runner line of shoes offers good support. I use them when I'm walking the dog or when I'm running on the treadmill, and they keep me from getting shin splints or having foot pain.
  • What works for person 1 won't necessarily work for person 2. Go get fitted at the best running shop you can find.

The combination of heavy person and supinator is going to be difficult to fit; most really sturdy shoes made for larger people are for over-pronators. The Brooks Beast (horrible name, isn't it?) is the best-known of these.
