For the Love of DDR..

I have fallen in love with the Dance Dance Revolution! I was at first skeptical about it but then I thought if alot of you guys like it then it might be worth trying...

Well i believe i have been on it for more then 2 hours today lol.Having 6 brothers and sisters who want to challenge ya helps to.
But what i want to know is 30mins on this just as effective as walking and working out? and if not how much of it would equal to that ?

I think it depends on how high your heart rate's getting and if you're doing it continuously for 30 minutes. I've played DDR before, but never with a Heart Rate Monitor (I got one about 9 months ago and it's an invaluable tool!), so I'm not completely sure if they're the same for the Heart Rate and actual calories burned...but judging by how I felt when I used to play all the time...

Yes. I think that if you're doing 30 straight minutes of DDR, it's JUST (if not more) effective than walking for 30 minutes straight--but DDR can't replace resistance training.

Yeah I agree, you need to be doing in consistently for it to equal walking or something else. I know when I play it, I have to subtract the times when I'm letting someone else have a turn or when I'm choosing a song, etc. I'm glad you like it, it's one of my favorite things in the world@

This thread made me smile so big, I must look like a nerd at my desk at work LOL

I bought DDR last summer and I'm using it as my tool for exercise at the moment. I'm pretty good at it so I prefer to do the faster ones and I only play by myself at 'exercise time'. It's actually exercise that is fun!

I think once I take another 10 pounds off I will start some more kinds of exercise. Right now I have a hernia in my stomach (and currently on about 5 pills a day to keep it under control) and it feels like a rock in my stomach, and quite often it's causing sharp pains in my stomach. I'm not supposed to do anything strenuous like constant bending or heavy lifting so I think I am a little limited in what I can do for exercising. It's actually kind of frustrating because I actually don't mind exercising, and I used to be a pro at sit-ups.
(Another obstacle is my size F chest which gets in the way of attempting sit-ups.)
I guess I should research more options. If anyone has any ideas for me they would be appreciated :)

I Love DDR too! I would think it is just as effective, if not more, as walking for 30 minutes. As long as you keep it consistant for 30 minutes and keep it at a medium/basic level.

I'm a huge DDR fan! It's a great workout. Especially since it evolves. The better you get it at ... the harder you end up working. And what other workout is that that gets you up and moving for hours at a time?! If only they'd come up with a "Salsa DDR"!
