Well with my ellipitical broken and in a garage that is WAY to hot to workout in anyway and being in a rut with my pilates. I opted for utilizating my fathers pool.

My daughter and i had a blast working every muscle we know of, and from the feel of it, some muscles that i didnt even know i had. It was 90 degrees here today, so the pool was just what we needed. I think we will make a habit of it.

So, 1 hour in the pool. Laps and water aerobics. :swim:

I gave my knee a mighty whack last weekend...thought it was ok (it isn't like a twisting injury or anything) but my knees are so precarious...so the joint around the bruise/injury swelled internally, and my knee is locking.

Long story short - I can't do ANY cardio right now without it popping and locking in and out, which hurts. I'm not pleased. Anyone have any arm-only cardio? I did the elliptical M-W of the week, and it just kept getting worse, so I took yesterday as a rest day...but it still hurts today. Hopefully by tomorrow morning I'll be able to get back on the horse (I'm icing and elevating).

Well that was a long way of saying "no cardio" - but I did do a kick-*** arm workout for an hour.

baffled111 06-16-2007 12:18 AM

Amanda, does your gym have one of those arm bike things? They are **** to use, but they are a way of doing cardio while sitting down and not using your legs.

I skipped the gym today, but I rode my bike to and from work and took my dog on an 80 min/5 mile walk last night as a bonus for yesterday.

Me23 06-16-2007 04:42 AM

yesterday 30 mins power walk plus stretching
today swim and am supposed to be buying weights....do weights make you gain weight? Cos my arms are one thing I like about myself, cos as your textbook apple I have slender limbs.
Mandalinn: I agree with baffled, try an arm-bike. It's a round machine that kind of looks like a fan....

mandalinn82 06-16-2007 10:41 AM

I will look for the arm-bike the next time I go to the gym. Today's rest day was schedule-enforced, but I plan on dancing my little rear off at the wedding i'm going to tonight...well, unless my knee still hurts. Then I'll just sort of sway.

baffled111 06-18-2007 03:42 PM

Ugh. 3 days without going to the gym: 2 days because of tummy aches and yesterday because we went out of town for the day.

Today: 32 mins treadmill (300)
lower body (130)

I graduated from wall squats to barbell squats today. Hooray!

My schedule got a bit messed up today, and my workout suffered for it.

Only 20 mins treadmill (200)
Upper body weights (100)

mj5 06-19-2007 07:13 PM

I skipped the gym tonight it was SO hot! I was really worried about my dogs who were at home in their crates. An excuse not go to the gym, maybe? (Dogs were fine...hot, but fine). I couldn't face checking in and saying I didn't do anything today, so I did my yoga dvd. I totally feel it everywhere! Tomorrow, back to the gym! The plan is: arm/shoulder weight lifting and cardio.

canarysong 06-19-2007 08:40 PM

Well, it looks like I can't do any exercise for at least two weeks. I hurt my ankle and the doctor said I shouldn't put pressure on it until the pain goes away.

I'm depressed about this because for the first time in my life I'm enjoying exercising and now I can't do it. These next two weeks will be long indeed.

swiminky 06-19-2007 11:01 PM

Dear lord, I am sweating like a pig. I did my arm weight routine right after work, had some dinner, then warmed up with 5 minutes of rowing.

THEN I started prgram 1 of the "buns" workout on the "I Want That Body" DVD. I hadn't done it for a while and it kicked my ***. I think I'll be moving my workouts to the a.m. so I can get through it easier. Damn!

mandalinn82 06-19-2007 11:11 PM

60 min on the elliptical.

60 min total body strength.

wisher 06-19-2007 11:21 PM

Today I actually lost track of time while I was exercising! I went out trail running and it was pretty hot so I only planned (and expected to make it) for 30 minutes but by the time I got back to my car I'd been out for an hour and 5 minutes! Usually I'm pushing myself to get enough time in and this time I had no idea I was exercising so long! (yeah I was pretty damn tired by the time I was done but it felt good!)

mandalinn82 06-20-2007 02:13 PM

One exhausting 60 min run this morning. Note to self, do not plan to do long-haul runs the day after hard leg workouts. It will be painful.

baffled111 06-20-2007 03:08 PM

That's probably wise advice you're giving yourself there, Amanda. I have had similar epiphanies :)
I had a great workout today! I very much felt the need to get in a good calorie deficit.

52 mins treadmill (500)
lower body strength (95).

I suspect my legs will exact their revenge tomorrow, but for now I feel great!

Wed I lifted weights--arm/shoulders and since it was SO gorgeous outside (a big change from the day before when it was SO hot!)--I didn't do any cardio at the gym, but took my dogs for a nice long walk instead. Two dogs (comibined weight around 70lbs) on a tandem leash....has to count as more uppder body work out too! ;)

Thurs: plan is just cardio...don't have a lot of time, but want to fit something in.

Was not feeling the gym today. Sar and I decided we'd go for a swim instead. We brought our rubber playground ball, with the intention of treading water and playing catch.

There was a posse of 3 kids under 10 in the pool - they asked to play - so we had an hour and a half game of VERY aggressive water volleyball. And MAN, it was a REALLY good workout! I tried not to put my feet on the ground at all.

So 80 minutes of cardio in the pool, on a day when I didn't want to go to the gym! Yay me!

KatieK 06-22-2007 09:58 AM

50 min treadmill
50 min LB weightlifting with abs
