Tonight was a nice easy 2 mile run -- my last run before my 10k on Saturday!

Thanks everyone!!!

Ilene: I actually ran my first 5k back in October. My time then was 29:46. Right now I am following a 10 week 1/2 marathon training program I found online. My sister and I are planning to run a 1/2 marathon at Disneyland in September. I am really pumped about it! My "long" runs will be on saturdays and tomorrow is my first. I will try for 4 miles. I am starting the training plan now so that way i have a time to adjust and work on my pace and distance before the actual run.

Amy: Just stick with it!! I know you can do it - its hard work, but well worth it in the end!! Someone posted a ton of quotes in the 20-somethings support group yesterday and this one is my favorite...when i start to get tired when running I repeat to myself "the only one that can stop me is me...and i can take her." I also repeat the quote in my signature to myself when i want to quit.

Good job to everyone! Keep up the hard work!

Here's my exercise for yesterday:

Ran 3 miles: 28:54
1 hr: Lift class at the gym

I started my new weight training regimen today. I'm not excited about it. I ran for 5 mins, worked my arms and lower back, then did 45 mins elliptical.

Btw, someone told me that doing a small amount of cardio (say 5 mins of running or the rowing machine) prior to lifting helps to burn more calories while doing the lifting. Does that sound feasible to anyone? It definitely can't hurt--but can it help?

It is good to warm up for 5 minutes before weight training but I have never heard that it burns more calories while doing the lifting... Why are you not excited about your new routine?

I think I had an exercise NSV today. We were playing with a blood pressure machine. My resting (well, hanging around atlking with the girls) pulse was 60. A doctor noticed and said I must be an athlete with a nice low pulse like that
