Recumbent Bike

  • My husband and I want a recumbent exercise bike and we've done a lot of searching online and we've gone into every sports and department store in town...

What we have noticed is that you either buy gym quality equipment for a couple grand - or you spend anywhere from $400 to $1000 and buy what seems like junk. Every single bike we tried in the stores felt chinsey and cheap - even the $1000 ones.

Anybody have any luck with a mid-range recumbent bike?

We're almost convinced to throw down the money for a professional one... but I just have a hard time parting with $2200 dollars.

    Thanks!
  • I know this is quite a step down from a bike, but what about one of those pedal-type exercisers where you sit in your own chair, sofa, etc. ?
Might be just as good as the cheapy recumbants ?????

It would definately have a softer seat
  • I got lucky and found a Nordic Track recumbent bike at a garage sale for $150. It's worked great so far!! You'll find a LOT of exercise equipment at garage sales, since people who aren't as dedicated as WE all are buy it, then don't use it.
  • ooh good idea. I've been trolling craigslist and the local papers with no luck. maybe i can talk hubby into a garage saleing day.

I've looked at those little foot pedal things and wondered if they did anything at all. At least the price is right!
  • I am looking to buy a recumbent exercise bike, but am having trouble finding one. I am 5'2", and my legs are proportionately SHORT for my height. Yikes! Anyone have luck with a particular brand/type that works for shorties?
  • UPDATE: Have found that the low-end (least expensive of the series) SCHWINN bikes are a good fit!
  • I got one!!
My hubby and kids got me a recumbent bike for Christmas (and yes, this is what I asked for)
He got me a Nordic Track, and it looks great. The only thing I'm worried about is putting it together
    Anyone ever put one together?
    Thanks
    Cathy
  • Just wanted to update that we got a True fitness PS900 - we put down the money for the good one. I am so glad that we did. We found a floor model and got a bit off the price for it.
    We love it!!
  • actually I just bought the Marcy recumbent for just under $200... it works great, def not gym quality but it has an adjustable seat which is good because I'm only 5'4" and doubles as both cardio and resistance training if you pedal on one of the higher settings.... i love it
