Home Gym Vs. Free Weights

  • Which do you prefer? We are looking at getting a home gym. Dh has picked one out, but it's a lot of money for us. So we are trying to first, make sure we will use it. Second, decide if it's the best option. Free weights scare me. I'm very uncoordinated. I think I would be more likely to use the home gym. Dh says he thinks free weights work better. This may be true, but if you don't use them, they don't work. Plus, he can lift a whole lot more than I will ever be able to. So I'm thinking a home gym would be a better option because you can just adjust the weight, rather than having all these different free weights around. I do have a place to put a home gym, so that isn't an issue. So can anyone tell me some pros and cons and what you prefer? TIA
  • I prefer free weights. You can do sooo many more exercises with them. I personally believe there's less chance of hurting yourself with them 'cause you move in more natural ways, not predetermined ways by a machine that may not match your body perfectly.

I guarantee that after a couple workouts with free weights you won't be afraid of them anymore. Just start out light until you get the feel for it & you'll be amazed at the weights you can lift!
  • I just found a thread on this in the weight lifting section. Oops. But after reading it, I am leaning towards free weights now.
