OMG...that reminds me that at the gym last weekend, I actually saw his infomercial - I was listening to music so I didn't hear most of it, but I plugged into the TV sound for a minute or two out of sheer curiosity. Before I listened, I thought that this guy a bit on the pudgy side was perhaps an announcer or the "interviewer", but upon actuallly listening for a minute and hearing people "call in" to say how wonderful and lifechanging and blah blah yada yada and how terrible the FDA is for keeping whatever it is they're purportedly keeping a secret from the WHOLE WORLD. Ummm please.

Anyway...I was absolutely SHOCKED at the difference between the picture on the cover (which for some reason reminds me of the covers of those "soft rock" albums of the 1970s :D ) and the pudgeball who seemed to be squeezed into a suit 1 1/2 sizes too small....eeeccch.

I found this great article about the book and his background here at Salon.com (you have to watch a 30 second ad to gain access to the whole article, but it's worth it!) and IMO this guy is a major sleezeball weasel...that FDA lawsuit is all about him selling snake oil products via infomercial and making millions off gullible people, with stuff like "Sable Hair Farming System," (reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where George orders that cream from China  ) "Mega Memory System," "Doctor Callahan's Addiction Breaking System," "Action Reading," "Eden's Secret Nature's Purifying Product" and "Howard Berg's Mega Reading" none of which worked of course. So because he was defrauding people with false advertising (let's not even go INTO the huge credit card fraud thing - I wouldn't trust THAT guy with my Visa number either!) for products that didn't do what they were claimed to do, quite frankly.

The article also has some quotes from a consultant who handles worldwide distribution for the book, a Reno Rollé:

Quote:

It was Reno Rollé who initially urged Trudeau to combine his extensive experience in infomercials with the book business. "I suggested he focus less on hard products, ingestibles, and more on information and newsletters," he says. "That way he could find a safe harbor under First Amendment protections."
So he can say whatever he wants to in his book and the FDA and he's covered under freedom of speech to hawk his $38 book and his subscription website. As the article says "He's got the formula down and he knows how to trick people...And he's got enough money to do it. The FTC can't stop him because the amount they fine him is nothing compared to what he takes in."

This guy is a crook and a charaltan, IMO.

pumpingiron 11-10-2005 12:42 PM

Yes, the guy is slimy, crooked and making too much money.
If you keep an open mind however, he does make SOME valid points. The pharmaceutical industry, IMO, is also slimy, crooked and making too much money. (Now don't start yelling, I have worked several years at two major pharms.) Believe me the bottom line is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Create new diseases for EVERYTHING, make a pill, make tons of cash to cover the lawsuits that they know will eventually come up because they are pushing poison. (I don't believe in "safe" herbal pills either, and I do believe some rx drugs have their place, though very few) We have known carcinogens in our food and that pisses me off. I learned a long time ago from a biology professor to stay away from BHA/BHT. Yes, it does seem to me sometimes that the food and drug industry go hand in hand, I just didn't need KT to tell me that. Sorry for being on the soapbox, :dunno: but I feel strongly about this!

Good soapbox, IMO! :)

I saw an "updated" version of the KT book in Wally World yesterday. Didn't bother skimming through it, but it says it has the "natural cure" (whatever) for 50 diseases (if I remember correctly). Was wondering if he actually put some data in there instead of referring people to his website.

The best snakeoil hucksters (or any type of con artist for that matter) know how to mix a little bit of 'truth' into their sales pitch...

The man is a CROOK. And that's not "my opinion" - that's a FACT...

Quote:

Before reaching thirty, he was already a twice convicted felon serving time in a Federal penitentiary. He had posed as a doctor to gain credibility with bank officials, deposited $80,000 in fraudulent checks and misappropriated (for personal use) $128,000 from customer credit cards.

“That’s old news,” says Trudeau. “I made a few mistakes in my 20s. So what? I also s--- my pants in the third grade. Come on. This is America!”

After being released from prison, Trudeau got caught running an illegal pyramid scheme. Under investigation by 18 state Attorney Generals and the U.S. Postal Service, he was stopped from doing business and fined a half million dollars – a drop in the bucket to the millions he had made at the expense of others.
Posing as a doctor?
committing bank and credit card fraud?
and you want to give this guy your Visa card number???
And you TRUST what he says?

Saying "I made a few mistakes in my 20's" as an EXCUSE? Does that mean that we can ALL commit felonies and be excused for it as long as we haven't reached the age of 30? I guess maybe all the Manson Family followers should be released from prison, since they were all under 30 when they committed their heinous crimes. Too bad Scott Peterson waited until just AFTER his 30th birthday to kill his wife and unborn child - otherwise it would have just been a mistake, kind of like taking a dump in your pants in the 3rd grade.

Tell ya what - instead of buying the book NOW, why not wait until, say, six months or a year from now, when you can pick it up for a buck at a garage sale (personally, I'd say you'd be wasting a good dollar, but hey, it's your life.)

Yeah, I know there are people out there who think that Trudeau is being unjustly persecuted or that he somehow has these 'secrets of health' that the mean old government and other people are purposely keeping from us...gee whiz, I guess if I had been banned for selling worthless crap by the Federal Trade Commission (see this link for the deets) I'd be ticked off too. But then again, I don't ever forsee myself going on TV to sell tape that supposedly provided "permanent relief from severe pain, including debilitating back pain, and pain from arthritis, sciatica, and migraines" or calcium supplements that cure cancer (nothing like ripping off people who are suffering/dying from cancer huh - and folks actually BELIEVE this guy??? He's a textbook example of a crook).

Don't take MY word for it though - check out all THESE complaints from people who were RIPPED OFF from his book.

Or these.

He's already made megamillions from the book, no doubt. Even with what I'm saying and others are saying, even if he gets 'the book' thrown at him, he KNOWS that the most he'll get is a fine (amounting to a very small percentage of what he's raked in so far) and a slap on the wrist. He'll go away for a few years, then come back with some other crap...he's nothing more than a modern-day carpetbagger, like the one in the Clint Eastwood film The Outlaw Josey Wales...

Quote:

Carpetbagger: Your young friend could use some help.
[holds up a bottle of patent medicine]
Carpetbagger: This is it... one dollar a bottle. It works wonders on wounds.
Josey Wales: Works wonders on just about everything, eh?
Carpetbagger: It can do most anything.
Josey Wales: [spits tobacco juice on the carpetbagger's coat] How is it with stains?
(one of my favorite movies...)

 Not me! :) Wasn't sure if you were respondin' to my comment on seeing the updated book or just generally, but, no, I didn't mean I want to buy it or give it credence. I can't stand even seeing the man's face leerin' outta the bookshelf. I was just idly commentin' that the book now claims to be "updated" with 50 natural cures. :carrot:

I guess that was aimed at me but I never said I supported him. I admitted he is a crook, I just happen to like reading on controversial issues. BOTH sides of that argument stink! We definitely have a problem with our food supply that everyone seems to ignore or just don't care about. KT rips people off by providing false hope to ill people, and then upsells monthly access to his website or a monthlyt newsletter or whatever. THE WHOLE THING IS ABSURD!!!

Oh. :) I thought your post about the pharmaceutical and food industries made some valid points and it was refreshing to hear them said. I didn't think you supported KT at all, quite the contrary.

Nah...not directed at you...I just got into one of my tangents. :)

It was more "building" on what I stated before...I know that there are lots of folks who won't post who will read this and want to make sure they know (quoting Paul Harvey here) "The Rest of The Story" regarding this SLIMEBALL.

Musicgal 11-12-2005 02:06 PM

You are right, he has been in so many of these infomercials always pushing some miracle cure. In fact, the first time I ever saw him was about four years ago and he was talking about some diet which I think was either the Atkins plan or something very close to it saying he lost weight on it, etc., but as someone mentioned he's not exactly thin himself. Then he was singing praises of coral calcium and face cream and now his own Natural Cures. There are some things in his book that make sense but isn't he just as bad  as "they" are -- the people he's saying are doing things just to make money? Isn't that what he's doing...because in his book he often mentions info you can only get on his website which you have to pay for? Shouldn't just buying the book be enough? He has a CD on weight loss secrets "'they' don't want you to know about"... (around $20 or so I think) because "they" won't let him print a book on it...probably because he's plugging his website again and there's no real information in the book!

LOL...OK. Just so you know I'm not CRAZY!!!!! ;)

I remember reading the book thinking - Oh MY GOD! this is so poorly written, I don't know how he would expect anyone to believe him!!!!

I am just fearful that people are so trustworthy of food and drug mfrs. because there is some severe corruption there! Saw it firsthand. I gotta say when I first started working at the big pharmas I was happy and disillusioned. Man were my eyes opened.

So somewhere in the middle of KTs crazy :censored: and the FDAs "oh we're trying to protect the public" is the truth. I have dreams of opening a daycare where I give the kids (a true softspot for me) only the best food. NO preservatives, chemicals, artificial flavors/colors or any garbage. It is so sad how kids are being fed at schools. I believe this is what is contributing to the massive numbers of juvenile diabetes/ADHD disorder in recent years. There was a clip on Supersize Me documentary that showed "problem kids" getting a wholesome diet in their new school. The incidents went down dramatically and they were so much more behaved than when they were eating crap. I noticed this firsthand with my own daughter once. She went over to her grandmothers and gotten her hands on a cupcake that had so much green coloring in the frosting that her bm was blue!!! That night at bedtime (a very normal ritual for our house - no problems ever) she threatened to hit her dad for saying it was time for bed. It upset me terribly, because I had NEVER seen her like this! She was getting VIOLENT---FIVE YEARS OLD!!! Needless to say we do not have anything in our house with artificial colors or flavors in it. It did not happen again. So that's why I say KT has some valid points....I just wish it was coming from someone credible!

OOPS! On the soapbox again....sorry :^:

What she said :D . The guy drives me buggy. I can't STAND it when people try to take advantage of folks who are desperate to lose weight. But (as I recall) that makes me "shifty" with a "propensity to ignore the research" right, Mrs.Jim? :dizzy: .

Amarantha2 11-12-2005 06:50 PM

Pumpingiron: Again, I like you on the soapbox, specifically, your comments on the way kids are fed at schools and I also think there's a connection between that and the proliferation of diabetes and ADHD.

pumpingiron 11-13-2005 11:27 AM

Thanks Amarantha!

Oh, and by the way.......... :cp: :cb: :bravo: for the weight you have lost! You're awesome! Must have a little something to do with the great support here!!! (And a lot of :strong: :ebike: )

Amarantha2 11-13-2005 03:12 PM

Thanks, Pumpin! Actually, though, I lost the bulk of my weight before I ever heard of 3FC ... put some back on, took some more off, etc., long journey ... No Kevin required, either! :)

Kevin Trudeau

Wow! Look, I am not trying to disrespect anyone in this forum, but I am assuming the way you guys are bashing Kevin T. that you all have the cleanest "closets" with no skeletons. Never did something you regretted later?? :?: I know I have.

And to be completely up front, he does admit to his past mistakes in his book. I also tried some of his health techniques and since I have tried some of the "herbal cures" he suggests, I have been able to get off of TWO of my medications. I go to a Christian family owned chiropractor that promotes the same exact things as Kevin T. If people would actually take the time to read the book without judging his past transgressions, you will see that everything in his book is not a "medicine man" theory, but fact amoungst many, many, many holistic medicinal practicers. I also have lost several pounds using some of the techniques he speaks of. Pounds I was struggling with previously.

All I am trying to say is, we all need to get down off our "high horses" because we have ALL screwed up big at some point in our lives. Wouldn't it be horrible if someone held your screw ups over your head the rest of your life? Especially if you actually had info that could help people? I would just hate (for a lack of a softer word) for people to find me a less "credible" person because of some of my past mistakes...and trust me...I have many!

And of course the government has it in for him! He is teaching people what the government is actually doing to us. The chemicals being put in our foods. The diseases they are causing. The diseases that CAN be cured naturally but the government doesn't want us to know because then "they" lose out on our money.

Sorry for the lengthy post. I am just a huge Kevin T. fan as he has changed my life in a wonderful way and with his information, I have been able to help several family members and friends and, I tell you what, after seeing and feeling what I was able to see and feel, they are Kevin T. fans too.

Happy Holidays!

Dawn M.
