They certainly don't fill me up. For an occasional meal replacement, say once or twice a week, they would be okay but they'll never replace the good food you should be learning to eat to be healthy.

180 calories isn't much of a 'meal' IMO. (in fact, Dexatrim doesn't appear to be promoting these as a 'meal bar' - but rather as a 'diet bar'. I wouldn't eat one of these and call it a 'meal'. (in fact, if I ate one, the sugar and sugar alcohol in it would make me even hungrier in a very short time!)

I looked these up, and despite the manufacturer playing the 'net carb' game (which is a load of hooey IMO!) there are still 21 grams of carbs, only 5g of which are fiber...really the 'net carb' thing only has credence (IMO) for those who are concerned about their blood sugar levels. Those 'non-net' carbs can still make you quite fat - it comes down to a calorie is a calorie is a calorie - eat too much of even 'healthy' foods and you'll still get fat.

I also note that in the ingredients, there's a couple of 'nasty' ingredients - like hydrogenated oils and sugar alcohols (which affect many people - including yours truly - adversely, digestively speaking).

Just my two cents. It's being hyped as something different, but in the end, it's just another one of the dozens of 'diet' candy bars out there...

Ya know, I don't do the bar thing myself. I've done it before and they inverably end up making me crave sugar, and getting bloated and gassy from the sugar alcohols and stuff in them.

I'd say that used in MODERATION - like maybe once in awhile as an emergency food, i.e. when you're traveling - there's worse things you can eat, but I wouldn't recommend using them as a staple of your diet!

Thanks, Mrs. Jim, for sharing your opinion on the "net impact carb" thingie!

As you stated, it is of interest to diabetics and others who're controlling blood sugar but otherwise it's just a marketing trick IMNHO ... smoke and mirrors ...

Coincidentally I just started a thread at LWL about calories that you might find worthwhile reading...
