"Eat less" pill...

has anybody tried it? does it work?

Eat Less contains a combination of fiber and caffeine.

You take the capsules with a large glass of water, and it is supposed to swell in your stomach so you don't have room for a full meal.

The warning on the label:
Quote:

Warnings:
Taking this product without adequate fluid may cause it to swell and block your throat or esophagus and may cause choking. Do not take this product if you have difficulty in swallowing. If you experience chest pain, vomiting, or difficulty in swallowing or breathing after taking this product, seek immediate medical attention.
I seem to recall a similar product in the 80s, that was actually pulled from the shelves for causing people to choke. Does anyone remember this?

My concern is that if you fill up on fiber pills, you don't really do anything positive for your diet. Eating less is only part of the answer. It's more a matter of eating less of the "bad" foods, and eating more of the good foods.

Personally, I'd find another way to fill up. Start your meal with a salad and a large glass of water. Actually, a glass of V-8 juice will have an amazing effect on your appetite! It's very filling, and a glass before your meal can save you from overeating, and it's very healthy.

I eat 6 healthy mini meals a day, and I'm never hungry.

Sounds a lot like Fibre Trim to me. I think that's what it was called - it had guar gum or something in it, and like you said, Suzanne, caused people to choke.

A lot of the time, though, people don't overeat because they're hungry, but because the food is there or they 'just have to have' candy or pizza or what have you. So a 'full tummy' pill wouldn't necessarily solve the obesity problem IMO.

ok, a few weeks ago I started a thread called "a question about fiber". Personally, I need all the fiber I can get. I have a low thyroid and I only eat about 1200 calories a day. I'm still not losing weight. Most say I'm not eating enough and need to up my calories to lose but whenever I do that - I gain weight. Most people that I have talked to with a low thyroid have to keep it at 1200 calories or less also. It's just the way it is.

Since I don't want to take diet pills anymore (I took them on and off for years to keep my calorie intake low and give me the energy I needed to get thru the day) I need all the help I can get in curbing my appetite. Rather then just taking metamucil or something like that for the fiber, I decided to give these Eat Less pills a try.

I looked over the ingredient list and didn't see a problem there, even with a capsule having 50 mgs caffeine, I didn't feel that was a problem for me because it is the only caffeine I get. I drink everything decaf and rarely have chocolate, etc.

I take 1 30 minutes before lunch and 1 30 minutes before supper with 32 oz of water. I have not had any problem with getting them down, and I do seem to feel fuller and I'm not constipated (which can be a problem with a low thyroid). I haven't had a problem keeping my calories at 1200 while using them, but I am very determined - I journal everything that touches my lips, am drinking over 100 oz of water a day, and exercise 5 days a week. Of course, I slip up at times, but I try to stick to my plan.

hope this helps in some way,
Cathy

On atkins they recommend taking physillium husks, it also states on the jar to make sure you mix well and drink in a full 8 oz glass of water or you can choke....... scarrrrry and taste gross.

I just checked the Eat Less stats. Retail is $20 for 60 tabs - pretty pricey for a cellulose pill.

Leenie - I believe psyllium husks = Metamucil - at least that's what it's made of.

Fiber pills- When I do buy them (not often as I prefer to get my fiber through food) I get FiberCon or the store generic version. Generally a bottle of around 90 tabs costs around $10 or less in my area...

Mrs Jim, the company I work for makes fibercon, we as employees can buy them for $2.90 a bottle of 90, but they don't work for me and I used to get them for my mom but they stopped working for her too, go figure.

The Phys husks I'm talking about is not the metamucil brand but in either case when you mix that powdered stuff in water OH GAG CITY!!!! I used to have to mix it in cherry diet soda to try to hide the taste ICK!!!
