Hello There. Yes I have an autoimmune thyroid disease called Hashimotos. I am on 100mcg of Synthroid daily. My weight loss has been slow, but I have managed to lose nearly 100 pounds since October 2014. I have 45 or so pounds left to go to my goal weight. Having a thyroid condition definitely makes it more challenging {losing weight}, but not impossible. Hugs!
yep! I have a whole bunch of hormonal issues. I'm also on synthroid.
before my son was born I did really well on a low sugar diet. (I have insulin sensitivity too). weight loss was slow but steady, and I had a tonne more energy.
I try to focus on feeling good, and making good food choices. It's more motivating for me to say "I made it 1 week and didn't eat junk" than to watch the scale.
I also have Hashi's. I take Westhroid (1 grain) and also a supplement called Thytrophin. I do think that having your thyroid dose dialed in helps, but I found that what I eat makes a huge difference in my ability to lose weight. Lower carb works better for me, regardless of calories. And I MUST avoid foods I'm sensitive to- it's worth being allergy tested. I found out through allergy testing that I'm allergic to corn (which is in so many things you wouldn't expect) and garlic, and I have food sensitivities to histamines and salicylates. So I have to be super careful. If I eat foods that I'm not sensitive to, and keep my carbs down, I lose weight fairly easily. If I eat foods I'm allergic or sensitive to, or too many carbs, I cannot lose weight and will likely gain it instead. YMMV.
I also have Hashi's, and along with it -- Celiac, and food sensitivities found through blood testing.
Once I found out I had Hashi's and Celiac, I lost about 40 pounds within five or so months after removing gluten from my diet completely. I then stagnated for a very long time, as I took on a job which was not fulfilling and was abundantly stressful. I recently started a new job, got my food sensitivities testing done, and have lost about 17 pounds since February, most of which came off in April, after finding out about my sensitivities.
Prior to knowing what my autoimmune and thyroid issues were, weight loss seemed to be a complete crapshoot. I could lose, I could gain, or nothing could happen for MONTHS, regardless of my food and exercise regimens. Two years after learning about my issues, I am 62 pounds down and healthier than ever.
Hashis here as well. I have to take 225mg of synthroid every day. I was diagnosed with Hashi's right before I lost weigh the first time around (180 pounds in just under 2 years) and have been told by my doc that being on the meds means that I am no longer hyperthyroid. Six years later and I have gained back 100 and have just recently gotten back on the weight loss train. I feel like it is going a bit slower this time, but I may just be being anxious. I am seeing a lot more wild swings up and down on a daily basis, that is for sure, but the general trend is downwards. I have also just recently cut a LOT of things out of my diet just to see how it goes which could account for the wild swings. As long as the trend is losing, I am hoping I can just take it easy on myself.
Diagnosed with hypothyroidism 18 months ago and put on levothyroxine 50mg. Despite that have gained 55 pounds since then. I used to run 5k before the diagnosis but now walking 50m up the road is hard work. Have decided that the only way to live with this is to radically reduce my calorie intake.
I'm the heaviest I've ever been in my life right now.

Caloric intake is a big issue, for sure- even with a well controlled thyroid if you eat too much you won't lose weight. Do you feel your thyroid levels are well controlled right now on the Levo? the reason I ask is that in some people, T4 (which is what Levothyroxine is) isn't enough and they need T3 also. Make certain your doc is doing a full thyroid panel including thyroid antibodies, Free T3, Free T4 and reverse T3. You want to be sure you aren't having trouble converting T4 into T3 because if you are then all the T4 in the world won't make you feel better. I take a desiccated thyroid compound (Westhroid) that has T4 and T3 (as well as T2 and T1 but they aren't clear on what that actually does).

You're absolutely right but unfortunately my NHS trust in the UK doesn't allow GPs or consultants to prescribe T3. I went to see my GP a few weeks ago to complain about lethargy and weight gain with a request to try T3, but was dismissed. I can't afford private healthcare and buying T3 online isn't really safe. I'll just stick to my diet plans and various supplements and hope for the best. If that doesn't work I'll have to start saving for a private consultation. Ho Hum...
I, too, have Hashimoto's and had to have my thyroid removed in 2011 because of nodules that were quite large. None of the biopsies were definitive, so I had it out on the doctor's recommendations. Weight loss seems hard to me- very slow, and seems to only work with serious calorie restriction. I am now on Medifast and 112mcg of Synthroid each day. Hang in there. It is possible, just a little more challenging for us.
Bump.
I have graves disease so am hyperthyroid. I am on meds to slow my thyroid back to "normal" but gained about 10-15 lbs in 1-2 months from meds. I tried so hard not to. Feelings super unmotivated. Looking for some hope!!
