Overeating for what purpose?

Hello! I am new here but not to weight challenges. I have gained 20lbs in a very short time. I have always struggled with food, overeating, eating out of boredom etc.
Today I will start the Ideal Protein program. I have been on it before and I know it works, how can I ensure success this time? I sit at a desk all day and I eat candy and chocolate constantly.
This is going to be tough, I know, but I don't feel too strong right now.

Hi Peakab00!

What's great with you is that you have a weight loss program that you know works. That can give you a lot of confidence that what you're going to be doing will work.

Personally, when I'm feeling discouraged or down about my progress, I go back to what motivated me to do this in the first place. I do my best to recall why I want to lose weight, remind myself why this is worthwhile. It works to re-direct my mind and remind myself what I'm doing this for. I'm sure you have some pretty powerful reasons for deciding to go on a weight loss journey, as well. Remember what those are. And that's it's worth it. And that you can make it happen.

I also advocate balance. While we need to follow our weight loss plans, that doesn't mean we stop being happy in the here and now. I try not to feel like I deprived myself, without going on a binge. And you need to follow a program that's sustainable for you.

Best luck on your journey!

Hi Peakab00! Welcome!

You know you'll lose weight on IP, so it sounds like by "success" you mean "how to maintain after IP". I, too, have a desk job. Can you work in some exercise? Walk to the farthest bathroom, take the stairs, park further away, walk your errands at lunch, etc? And can you come up with strategies to not hit the candy bowl? Come up with a different way to reward yourself, instead of candy. Or a different thing to do when bored.

Or- maybe work intermittent fasting into your routine? I have been exploring IF myself, and they said that people that use intermittent fasting eat less overall (because they don't fully make up for the missed meals in their subsequent meals).

Or- after IP stay on a relatively low-carb diet and allow yourself so many carbs per day, which could come from candy if you wanted? That way you don't have to deprive yourself? But remain in the 150g of carbs or less weight loss maintenance zone?

Those are my thoughts.
