Epigastric pain from ****

This has happened about 3 or 4 times in the past year and a half, usually every 6 months.
Monday morning I was awake around 4 am when it hit. It wasn't too painful at first, it was just that squeezing feeling that lets you know "oohh crap, here it comes" and it did a few minutes later. The pain starts right in the middle of my upper abdomen then it travels to my back all up and down my spine feels like it's being squeezed then it goes to my lower sides mainly the left.
I have had two pitocin induced labors, one without pain meds and one with. The labors doesn't even compare to that pain. It is awful. The other times I have got it, it lasted about an hour. This time it lasted from 4-7.
The first time I went to the ER for it, I had a scan done and they said it looked like I had gallstones so they referred me to my primary doctor and she set me up with a hida scan. The specialist they referred me to said the hida scan was basically normal.
Yesterday I went to the er and the dr diagnosed me with reflux and gastritis. Now, I've never been to medical school but I'm smart enough to know that **** of pain I experienced is NOT reflux.
Anyone had anything like this before? What did it turn out to be?
I am scheduled for an endoscopy soon.

I have twice had pain that was worse than labour & similar to yours, both times I had a strangulated cyst on my ovary 1st left & 2nd right. Both times I had to have surgery to remove th cyst & ovary. The 2nd time I went to ER the Doctor told me it was gallstones, the catscan showed nothing but an ultrasound showed the cyst. Did you get an ultrasound done yet?

yes, and it was gallstones.

I have reflux and I can say that I've had pain with it so bad, I thought I was having a heart attack.

I'm with MauiKai on the reflux and the pain- omg, I thought I was having a heart attack as well. I also thought I had an hiatal hernia and/or gallstones issues (pain around the diaphragm area and below the breast on the right) but a barium swallow revealed severe reflux. I hope your issues get resolved asap!

Hope everything is okay with you!

I'm hoping you will check in and let us know what this was. I never had gallstones but from what I've heard from others it sounds like it. They can act up when you lose weight for some reason. I hope you are OK.

I have a very bad hiatal hernia according to the doctor, but the only symptom I get is a cough.

I've had the reflux that feels like a heart attack also. Then you start to panic, and it makes it all worse! I've had the pain in the back with it also. It is NOT FUN!

I can tell you for me that I noticed it was happening anytime I had Splenda. I am very sensitive to artificial sweeteners. Aspartame gives me migraines. I was drinking soft drinks sweetened with Splenda, and at first I thought it was the carbonation triggering it. But I can drink regular soft drinks without having the reflux pain. Drinking a lot of coffee (caffeine) will also trigger it for me.

I hope you find out what is causing your pain! :)
