Good News!
:cloud9: :cloud9:
As of this afternoon, dh is off dialysis. He'll be monitored and will need to go back on if he can't maintain enough function. But for now...... Ecstatic, hopeful, scared, cautious, all sorts of things! Have a good Easter. :hat:  :hat:  :hat:  |
Anagram, what wonderful news for you. A great gift that is for sure.
Mima - I hope you start to feel better. Also, would be nice if you could get your house done. Meme - Hope you are not in too bad a mess. Ally - How are you doing? Candice - Have you been out in the garden yet? Joanne - I think she is enjoying time with her daughter. I am really liking work, but had to cut back on some hours. Was supposed to be around 12-15 hours a week and it has been 20+ and it is just too much for me. The manager was great about it, so next week I go to 15. My poor bones and muscles can't handle more - YET. Hopefully, as time goes on, that will improve. If not, I am happy with the 15 hours. Hey, I bought two coats today. A really expensive coat shop is going out of business at the end of the month. I got a winter coat and a spring/fall jacket for under $150.00. Great deal and they are both such a nice style. Everyone have a great Easter. I will be having Easter Dinner hereon Sunday - I guess around 20 now. Some of these people aren't able to get here. That's ok, this is enough for me! I hope everyone feels great over the holidays. The little ones will be very excited. |
Hi ladies, I am Joanne's sister. Yes she is in North Florida spending Easter with her daughter. She is comong home on Monday.
|
Still hurting pretty bad but had a great time with the gals and our meal at he Olive Garden! I had two bowns of soup and salad and 1 bead stick so I did ok! Got a ton of gifts from them too! It was so nice to see them again, one of them has Fibro too and the other has CMT so we all three know aobut bad days!
The boys were here today and we had carryout from a lcoal resturant and I only ate half and sved the rest, plus angle cvake and DQ. I didn't even use my banked pts! I bought the stuff to make that fruit stuff but haven't gotten around to it yet! Happy Easter to you and Happy BD to me! I am 53 but feel 93 ;) |
Happy Birthday Candice-what a nice way to celebrate. And you did so well. I decided to start being real good tomorrow but I haven't been going crazy between meals so I have something conquered. Oh Anagram, you probably can't believe it!!!!!Happy Resurrection Day everyone. We went to my church last night and will go to Brad's this am and then company at 2. But the sun is out and 2 daffodils are blooming and no workmen are coming. Can't believe it-our first anniversary is in 2 weeks!!!!What a year!!Our service was 2 and a half hours long and Brad never complained once. I have been blessed. Mima
|
Happy Easter all. I haven't been able to get on for the last few days. A TON of ads pop up and then lock up my computer. It is funny that I am reading right now that Advertising of any kind is not allowed. Yuck Yuck. Somehow every diet company gets in here. Hope all are well and happy. I have a fibro flare right now...a direct result of hyperactive identical twins and their school vacation.
I have also snuck into the sugar...and amazingly not today. But then it is not like the Easter Bunny remembered me. I am not on his route. ;) |
I have a sugar hangover!!!M and M's and jellybeans. I am going to start counting points today-it's the only way I can do it-and walk. Got people coming to work on house today and I am so tired. But we had a nice day yesterday-met my daughter's borfiend-what a nice young man. And she is doing Atkins and was so good. Hope everyone had a good day. Mima

Fibro w/weight problem
Hi everyone,
Am new to this forum and have found such a wealth of information. My name is Gail, I live in Michigan, am 49 and have fibromyalgia. Since being diagnosed several years ago, I have gained quite a bit of weight, weight which I could not afford to gain! I want to get back into a mild exercise program. I had to stop in November because of exhaustion and severe pain from terrible insomnia. I am on several medications now that have restored my restful sleep, so I want to start working out slowly. I am planning to follow a Weight-Watchers style menu. I am open to any suggestions and support you might have to offer and will do the same in return. Looking forward to getting to know everyone here! Gail  |
Hi Gail and Welcome! I am 53 with Fibro.....but can do more since I lost weight, still have the pain but can get more done!
Right now I am trying to lose some Christmas weight but I am still at goal..just like to have some pounds to play with:D I love WW and it is the only thing that has worked for me and it has been almost 3 years now since I started. Easier to lose in the warmer seasons cause I like to garden. I also walk on a tredmill. Some of the other gals here are on WW too and some other stuff! I think I burned some calories today..4 hrs. in the yard digging, transplanting and raking! That is way to hard of work for me! I had some lilly of the valley and mint take over some flower beds and now I am trying to rid them of it! I even used roundup! Those plants are hard to kill!   |
Glad you can garden Candice-we woke up to snow-flurries anyways-can't believe it's April 24. I lost another lb and the secret is counting points, walking a half hour a day, and the support of TOPS because I know I have to weigh in tomorrow. It's very simple!Ha!!My name is Gail also and I have had fibro for so many years but it's under control. Every time I do something out of the ordinary I hurt!!Right now it's grouting the bathroom floor. But.........Bought grandaughter some music for piano and guitar for her 13th birthday. I had fun and I know she'll love it. How's your job Anne-we miss you.
|
Hey There
Welcome Gail.. I also lost weight at WW and now going to Tops for support.I am still using the WW points system. I am at the present time trying to lose some Christmas weight. I am 5 lbs over goal that I set at WW. My Dr set another goal so now I have to go down another 15. NOT EASY at my age.I was 70 this past March. I think I am the Grandmother of the group.
I haven't got back to walking this week. My knees want to hurt. Candice ,I wish I could work in the yard like you do. I just can't get up and down.I sat down on a low recliner and pulled something in my back getting up. Hurt like the dickens for a few days. Mima. Try to watch the Montel show today.. It is on weight control and Tops. I plan to tape it for my group. It is on at 3 pm here in my part of Florida. Happy.. we miss you..Don't get pulled into too many hours. Hello Anagram, Ally, Meme...The sun is shining and it looks like a beautiful day.. Got to get busy. I have a lot to do for the next few days. I guess I can get back to normal(whatever that is) on monday. Love you all...Joanne |
Hey There
I managed to do 35 min. on the treadmil (1 1/2 miles) and kept my points under 25. Now if I can do better tomorrow..
Motivation!!! I have to hang on to it.. Bye... Joanne:wave: |
Way to go Joanne-I'm weighing in this am but I didn't walk yesterday-I'm also wheezing from all the construction dust-he had to saw inside yesterday but today it's nice today-going to take my girlfriend to lunch. Bye for now. Mima
|
Keep motivated, Joanne. And have a Happy Easter again this weekend.
I'm sure you'll be so glad when it's all done, Mima. Lunch sounds good. I'm planning to go to the pool today - first time in a good while. Have been walking every day and a half hour of gardening a day as well. If I do it in small amounts, I can tolerate it more. If I do too much, I have to stop doing everything until I feel better. Food's been pretty good, on average, this week. Ate out yesterday so was a little more than some days, I think. But today I think I'll be pretty good, just have that feeling. Are you all done with your redecorating projects, Meme? Anne, hope job's going well. Also miss you. Candice, you got carried away with that gardening, didn't you? I do miss being able to do a lot of it as it was a great stress reliever for me at one time. Got a nice long handled tool that has helped me a lot this year. It's a tiny rake, hoe, shovel combo. Dh saw eye dr yesterday. Pressure up in eyes again and concerned for optic nerve. Changed one of the eye drops to stronger. Recheck in three weeks. |
WHEW...had to read both pages of this thread to try to get caught up...don't know what I missed on the last thread but don't have time to go back and see right now. I'm still using my laptop and I hate typing on it so I'll keep it brief. Hopefully I'll get my computer hooked back up to cable this weekend sometime. My room is almost all back together...still have some doors to put back up and the curtains have to be ironed and put back. Can't hook up the cable because I moved the furniture around and the cable cord is coming up in the far corner...which is where a lot of the other furniture is stacked in the basement...so we have to get everything put back before hubby can get to that corner to run the cable cord up through the floor. He was coming through with a box of stuff last night and just stopped in the middle of the living room and looked at me and said, "I don't think we will ever get all the stuff put back where it belongs." I told him that if we have to do all this again, next time it will be one room at a time...once a month or something. I can't do it half the house at a time like we did this time...it's just too much!
I have Ross today and he has not been having a good week. Daughter said he has been angry all week. We shall see, I guess. Gotta go hang some pictures and empty some more boxes...my back hurts...knees...ankle is much worse-next step surgery ... hands and wrists are TERRIBLE. New gold medicine has really done a job on my stomach, too ...have had to stop taking it in the mornings. Have only had 1 migraine, though, and it wasn't severe. Ally...you might should talk to your Dr. about the Topamax. I've been sleeping better since I've been on the Nortryptyline, too. Hi to Joanne's sister and the new Gail. We're a motley crew but you know what they say... misery loves company! :p |
Hey There
I will be glad when this weekend is finished, although ,I like to cook and I always cook too much and then have to give it away or sometimes freeze it. I will eat till it is gone. Not Good ,for weight control. I'll send some to my niece and some home with family.
Anagram, If it isn't one thing it will be another. Keep the faith. That long handled tool for gardening sounds like a winner. I'll have to look for one. My Hubby thinks a person has to get down on their knees and use the hands to be effective. Mima , I watched the program that was on the Montel show. I seldom watch any of those shows as they are usually too dramatized. It was pretty good. It was followed with a Opra show on the same subject. Not a whole lot of information ,just praising what has been done. I guess if I lost 1-3 hundred lbs I would do a lot of jumping up and down too. Got to get busy..Slept late this A M. But ,I guess when you are retired it doesn't matter...Joanne |
Hello
Welcome Gail. I hope you enjoy our little corner of the world.
Work - sure don't know about this. Have been in such pain the past couple of weeks - like it used to be a way back when. Everything that can hurt, does. I may NOT be able to handle this. I have already had to ask for a reduction in hours. It was supposed to be 15 hrs. a week, and she had me doing 20+. That was just too much; however, it seems that the 15 is now to much. I have only worked two 4 hr. shifts this week and I hurt so bad - from my shoulders to my lower back. Somehow, I am in a flare here. Legs feel like stumps and my arms are so sore. Well enough of this bellyaching. I asked for it! If I can't handle it, I will just have to quit, or try to find something that does not require so much standing. I have to work on the weekend (two long shifts) so this just might be the end for me:lol: Candice - nice for you to be able to get back into your garden. Just take it SLOW!!!! Can't someone else do all that digging? Mima - That sawdust would be a killer. Hope they finish soon. Joanne - Have a Happy Easter this weekend. Anagram - I have to start to try to get back to the pool as well. Hope things go well for both of you. Meme - I don't know how you can live in the house. I hate the smell of new carpets and paint. Both make me feel ill. Glad you are ALMOST there! Sick or not, it is nice to have a 'new' house. Ally - Don't let those teens get to you:lol: Sooooon, Ally, they will be young men! Everyone have a great day. |
The pool was great today - 96 degrees and all those aches and pains appreciated it. Of course it made me sleepy as it always does. I decided to go get my hair done directly from the pool because I felt I'd never make myself go back out if I went home and got cleaned up. I'd just want to nap. Well, I did almost fall asleep while the girl was drying my hair.
So I came home and rested and then dh and I went to K-Mart and picked up 8 bags of pine nuggets to start mulching. I did pine nuggets last year insted of tan bark and was quite pleased with the effect and the way we started out this year so I want to add more. Did my half hour in the yard again. That's my goal. Do not want to hurt. I agree with your dh, Joanne, but gotta do what I can. I feel that way about washing floors too but now that it's me or the floors, that went too. Well, time for din-din. |
Meme.........that was what you called brief! I could not handle all that constuction and moving stuff...we have not done stuff around here for years!
Happy..I wondered how you could handle that....I sure wish I could work, but know an outside the home job would cause too many pain problems so I am not even attempting it anymore. Used to sub al the time but had to be doped up on so many meds to do it! Joanne...http://www.oprah.com/tows/coming/tow...ml...........I love hearing these success stories. Sounds like you and I have Christmas weight to lose;) Anagram...I could not get all I need to do in the yard done if I only worked for 30 minutes! We live on 2 acres in the country and I am the only one that will do anything around here...Dh has the attitude he works outside the home so he should not work around the home...too tired! Hope your DH gets his eye pressure taken care of. Mima..hope your wheezing is under control..how was your lunch? |
Hey There
Candice- I have managed to lose the Easter wt. and now I am trying to get below the last weigh in weight. I will have better luck after sunday.
I managed to walk 40 min on treadmil yesterday. It is so hard to do that much on a treadmil. I have been having some dizzy spells so I am afraid to walk out by myself lately. Sometimes ,I think the best part of the day is after 6 pm. I have done just about everything I have to and if I have managed to stay within my points that is better. It will be hard tomorrow. Have a good weekend everybody...Joanne |
Happy....Yes, teens turn into men. And I'm not crazy about them either:dizzy:
I paid my exboyfriend (will still and forever call him ex cause I think that is what he will continue to be) to fix some things inclusing my sump pump. Sump pump has died, basement is full of water. He has promised to be over here for 4 weekends in a row, and no show. Arghghghghg. Will have to pay someone else. I am thinking of selling this house and buying another. THis is scary. I have had to pay people to fix this tiny little house, hate to think what will happen when I am older and alone. Going to Anger Management today at the movies. Hope it is funny. I need a laugh. |
Hi
Joanne, sorry to hear that you are not feeling so good. It is so hard to get back on track after a big event, like Christmas, Easter, etc.
Candice - Don't starve yourself!! Working in the garden and just being a bit more active will help you to get rid of it. It is the season:lol Anagram - I used cedar chips when we landscaped our yard and I loved them. The smell after a rain, or after a good watering was worth the money. I think pine chips would be good too. The both look really nice. We always put the plastic under them for weed control, but I am NOT sure that it really worked:lol Still was out there pulling the darn things. Ally - I think you need a new man. Go SHOPPING a find yourself a good, reliable one:lol Those boys will grow up to be nice men - they just need lots of time to get there!! It took my son until he was 24 and then all of a sudden a HUGE change. He became responsible and actually started to practice all the stuff he was taught from the time he was young. There is ALWAYS hope:lol Hi Meme - hope you're feeling better today. Just don't overdo it. I don't know if I EVER want to go back to owning my own home. I like this renting business. No money spent in fixing the thing up and no property taxes to pay. Both ways have there good points. Yes, I don't get equity, but I get interest on the money from the sale of our house. Hmmm, have to think about this one again. It is truly a MISERABLE day here today. The wind is howling and blowing hard; it is slushing out there (my word for snow and rain that is not sleet :lol) It is kind of like snowballs falling out of the sky! It is just plain unpleasant out there. This has been going on since last night. Started out as rain and then turned to snow and now just slushing. It is just at freezing and I am hoping the roads are ok, as I have to go driving on them in about an hour from now. Hope you all have a great day. |
Well we had the same kind of day yesterday but it's clearing up-walls in the kitchen are done-just wallpaper and trim left. I finished scraping messy grout job in bathroom. When I sold my house Anne, I figured it both ways and it came out sort of even . Anyhow, I wanted to stay in town so I bought a condo-now we rent it out for 800 a month minus condo fee and taxes-it pays for our mortgage. Now we have 2 equity lines and we are using one to pay for this. It's getting there. Tried to post a picture but it was too big-when we are done I'll send it to Meme-she knows what to do. Happy Easter again Joanne-made pea soup with leftover ham bone-never made it before-it came out good!!Hi everyone. Mima
|
Aaah, pea soup! One of my faves but I never make it.
Sometimes I long for a place where I can just call someone and make everything their responsibility. Too attached here for my own good sometimes. Candice, no a half hour wouldn't get your job done. It doesn't even get mine done. But that's the way I can do it. If I do more, I end up not doing any for a long time. But I got over 3 hours of yard work in this week and IF I could do that every week, it would at least be presentable (which it was not the last two years). Also got in five half hour walks and a 45 minute pool workout during the week. Plus a pretty good week calorie wise and lots of water. Yesterday was miserable here too at least until late afternoon when it got up to tolerable. But today looks GREAT. Don't have any plans, figure I might just hang around and do what ever (or nothing) strikes me. Have not had many days like that in recent months and May starting to look busy already. |
Hey There
I swear the next Holiday someone else can do the cooking... My back is broke, my legs are swelling. and I am not finished yet. Dinner is at 5 ish so I will put my feet up for about an hour..But...I say this every year.
This has always been a sorta big Holiday for my husband. He is Greek. His parents came from Spetsis, one of the islands off of the main island of Greese. His mother was a proxy bride. His father came to America and a few years after going through Ellis Island served in the WW1. When he finally came back to Tarpon Springs he was friends with another greek man whose wife had two sisters in Greece. Another friend of his was looking for a wife so they sent to Greece and brought over the two sisters. And that was the begining of this large family. That was the normal way back in the 20's.75% of the weddings then were proxy,in the greek community. Bye..Joanne |
I should never have told myself that I would get my life back when my kids graduated. It was that light at the end of the tunnel I counted on for years. NOw that it is almost here, I realize that it is not true. This has been the hardest year I have ever had. Right this minute I have noone in my house, eating all the food I just shopped for, messing up the house I cleaned yesterday. I need to get outside and take advantage of having the house to myself.
ANger Management movie was dumb....but it was nice to get out. I ate a huge dinner then bought Healthy Choice ice cream. Told myself it was diet ice cream....:o |
Of course it is Ally-Brad is going to do some electrical work today with an electrician-we just rested yesterday-it is so busy around here-I am going to start polyeurathaning the new doors today-some can go outside . We also have to pick out wallpaper for kitchen . Not much to wallpaper so we are going to try to do it ourselves-a test of the year old marriage-it's our anniversary next Sun-we are goin to have dinner Sat night at a real expensive restaurant-we have a 60$ gift cert and that won't be enough. I walked yeste4rday but got into the Cheezits-20 is 2 pts-low-fat-they are my weaknes. Take it easy today Joanne-that's such an interesting story about your husband's family. Bye Mima Ally-it does get better-sort of when they are in their 20's -hah!!!!!!
|
Hey There
Mima- I like your last word"Hah" ,It is right on the mark. I find some things get better but new things are always found. Our kids are constantly changing. Ground rules are good but not always holding them down. It gets really hard to live with sometimes.
Dinner went well sunday. I sent most of the food home with my son and my sister took some too. I will not touch the leftovers. I got on the scale and was 5 lbs up. I don't know how I do it. I didn't eat too bad. I'll hold my breath that it is fluid . This town is full of stories like my hubby's . But ,I guess every family history has some backgound. I hear my hubby on the roof so I guess I better go find out what he is up to. Hope he doesn't fall off and give me some more problems:lol: Bye.Joanne |
When I think back on what stressors pushed me over the edge to the point that I got fibro....parenting was a big one. AND I was my own worst enemy. I never asked for help, rarely used babysitters, did not take a break. Ahhhh...if I had it to do over again:dizzy:
Iwent down and got my aunt back on the computer. Hate all those popup ads. They get too distracting. And I told her that all of the ones that come up for me are about DIETS. Do you think the people at AOL can see me?????? It is very hard to teach someone this e-mail stuff. I forgot to show her how to page up and down. She kept telling me something was wrong cause the message gets cut off...:?: She will get it sometime. Her daughter sent her the link to her High School. They have someone from each year do a whole screen about what is happening. She graduated in 1941. There were 99 in her class, 54 still alive...many with e-mail addresses. I hope she writes some of them. |
I finally got my big computer put back together again and back online. One more step to being 'normal'... GEE... you guys think I'll ever be NORMAL???
Yes, Candice... seeing that I had spoken nary a word for days and days THAT WAS KEEPING IT SHORT!!! don't mess with me...between the house and the meds I'm about to lose what's left of my mind! My ankle hurts soooo bad I can't stand it... constantly on pain pills. I can't see the Rheumatologist until May 20 ... don't know if I can wait that long. I was going to ask his opinion about the surgery. I hate the idea of not having any feeling in it the rest of my life but I can't stand this pain the rest of my life either! Just don't know what to do. If I stay completely off of it it stops hurting after a while but as soon as I start walking on it again it starts back hurting. I took this morning off, didn't do anything - it wasn't hurting much at all. Then this afternoon, I put up some pictures and put some books back in the shelves and a few things like that and then taught piano for 3 hrs. and by the time I was through teaching it was killing me! Gotta go to bed ... baby Kaylyn comes early in the morning! Hope you all have a splendid day tomorrow... It's supposed to be 80 and sunny here! |
...tulips blooming now and lilacs about to and yes this has been a nice spring so far I think, but the weather people keep saying it is above normal temps.....the past few years have been really warm cause all my bulbs came and went in a day! Still digging up perennials and transplanting them while the weather holds out..now we need some rain! My lower back and hips are killing me from digging!
We all know that I sleep eat sometimes..well the other day I found out I was working outside in my PJ's at 6 in the morning on my way to bed! (that pill I take causes amnesia) I did not see any evidence of eating so that is a good thing!...What do ya think the neighbors thought! Mima......I love pea soup:) Happy....we rent form my FIL and we still have to do all the work and pay for stuff too! Ally....go eat some chocolate! Hey..you are just so funny..I get those pop ups too and hate them......do like the food ones!;) Anagram..sounds like you got somethings done this year. The bed I have been working in was neglected for several years cause the springs were to hot to transplant so this is the year! Meme....hope they can help your ankle........people with Fibro are more sensitve to pain they say. Can't get that across to my doc though! They think we all just want to be pampered! I think not:eek: Joanne...what is hubby doing up on the roof!???????? |
Candice, what med causes insomnia? I take a low dose of and antidepressant for the fibro and it helps me get into a deep sleep-you need a good sleep to control the fibro-spent all day yesterday doing one side of the closet doors and it still looked icky. This is going to take me a long time-we have 6 people doing things for us that we have to pay!!!Brad better get out there and collect some of the money owed to us!!!!!Meme-hope your ankle is better. Gotta go to Walmart. Mima
|
Hey There
Candice -Hubby was cutting tree limbs that hang on roof. If he would just cut down the trees that grow up near the house it would be better. It is a struggle to get him to cut down anything. He thinks if it grows up there.leave it there. Nature is supposed to be nature occording to him.:p How long do you think you were outside working in your pj's ? I don't think I would want to take something that makes me not know what I'm doing.
Ally- Next year if your boys don't go to college, send them out on their own or tell them get a fulltime job and pay rent. You will be surprised what that will do. Memi- I love Walmart too. Yhere are a few things I can't find there. I wish they had a better supply of fabrics. Meme- Hope you get a solution to your ankle problem soon. Hello Happy. Anagram...It is already getting close to the 80's here. Bye.............Joanne |
