acanthosis nigricans
 

Hello everyone...im kind of embarrassed to say but ever since i can remember, I have had this "dirt ring" on my neck..I also have dark under arms..sometimes its darker than other days..I tried looking it up online and I came up with "acanthosis nigricans" I have never heard of this..but it fits the description. I am pre-diabetic and have been on metformin for a few months. I was just wondering if anyone else has suffered with this?? Its horrible :( I just wonder if it will be gone once i loose more weight. It really is embarrassing to put my hair up and wearing tops with no sleeves :( just the thought of someone noticing or looking at it makes me shiver... :(

I had that, and it mostly went away once I got my insulin levels under control.

Mine was so bad that in high school my mom would scrub my neck raw with rubbing alcohol, and it would come off looking like "dirt". Imagine the pain that would have been spared had I known about insulin resistance then!
