Hi Donna, I weighed 320 at my heaviest and was on insulin for a year. I lost down to 260 ( don't know how, I was still binging and running 250 fasting. Taking 10 to 12 U of insulin morning and about the same at dinner.)
When I met my now husband, I changed the way I prepare food, don't go to buffetts anymore, and started exersising. I lost 50 lbs and was able to get off insulin and cut my metformin to 500mg.
I'm still overweight but not where I was and not where I'm going to be in the future. You can do this. I have started journaling, keeping track of what I eat. Be sure you drink your water. If nothing else it fills you up. But I think it does more than that. And move even if its just walking. I could only do a few minutes on the treadmill when I started and now I can do 30 mins. on the ellicilptical. If you need to talk just IM me. I am not real computer savey, but will try to help. Just don't give up. It's hard to change a lifestyle. Love and Luck, Lady :)

I'm new to this board. I have Diabetes II and Diverticulosis. I take Glucotrol XL, Glucophage XR and Avandia. I used to take Actos, but switched insurance companies in January and the new company doesn't cover it. I'm on WW and have lost about 13 pounds. Still working at it, but it's a struggle.

Hi all,

I was diagnosed as Type II in January, and I've just found myself back on 3fc after a bit of an absence, so I thought I'd check in here.

I'm on Metformin (I believe it is Glucophage XR in the States) and Simvastatin (Zocor??) for my cholesterol.

Just joined WW as the doc keeps telling me he won't increase my meds unless I lose weight. Fairly positive right now, but only two days into it!!

Hi All,

I just joined this forum and thought I'd take this opportunity to introduce myself. :coffee:

I've had type II diabetes and hypothyroidism since 1998. The docs put me on synthroid and metformin (about 1000mg day). I was doing really well controlling my blood sugars but over the last two years I haven't been as careful as I should be. I really want to focus on controlling my blood sugars through diet & exercise so I can hopefully get off these damn meds. The doctor wants to put me on Avandia but I'm extremely resistant. I hate taking medication.

Right now I focus on the Zone/40-30-30 eating plan. And when I stick with it my blood sugars are great and I feel wonderful. But I'm a bit lazy about planning and preparing things ahead of time. So I often end up eating out and not making the best choices. Hopefully this forum can help with that a bit. ;)
