Knee problems anyone???

Hi, my name is Holly. I am a 26 year old wife and mother of 3 small children. I have about 20 pounds to lose, but, have quite a few arthritic problems. I have bursitis in both of my knees, mild degenerative disc disease in my neck, and lower back pain.

Ok, enough complaining. I have been trying to workout using Leslie Sandsone's Walk Away the Pounds 2 mile walk, but, the lifting of the knees and kicking really bothers me, and keeps me from exercising when the bursitis acts up.

Anyone have any ideas of aerobic exercise I can do without harming myself more? Thanks!

Holly

There is a series of Chair Aerobics videos that really give you a good workout without having to beat your legs.

The Arthritis Foundation has a tape called PEOPLE WITH ARTHRITIS CAN EXERCISE (PACE) that is a pretty good 25 minute or so workout for people who have problems with knees, etc.

But my favorite (and I have two knee replacements) is to work out in water. It really helps!

my coworker has arthritis also, and she has done water aerobics. i have also found that an eliptical trainer is an excellent workout without any stress on your knees. maybe get a trial gym membership and try it out?

and while pilates isn't aerobic, it is definitely a good workout...perhaps try that?

Water exercises are great for those of us with knee problems and arthritis. Also exercises using the bands for stretching leg muscles. I am going to look into the Chair exercise series. I do some exercises in the hot tub because schedule does not permit the water classes offered in my area. Isn't it great to know that weight loss will help make our aches and pains a little less?
