I'm chubby & need advice!
Help! I have had hypothyroidism since I was about 11 (I'm 33 now) and I have recently had my hormone levels checked & everything was supposedly ok, but I still feel like something is not right. I am taking Synthroid and I just am having the hardest time losing weight! I am wondering if I should have a consult with an Endocrinologist to see if there is something wrong. If the blood tests come out ok, can there still be something wrong? Do I need to change my diet in any way since I have hypothyroidism? Of course it doesn't help that I've had 3 kids in less than three years (twins & then another one 22 months later! hee hee!) and I don't eat that great (I have to eat from the chocolate food group every day!) and I'm pretty inactive. Any help would be appreciated!

Come on over to the thyroid thread and join us. You do need to eat differently for hypo - more protein, fewer carbs, limit soy to one serving per day and limit raw cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli to name a few. You can lose weight. I have. A trip to a nutritionist can benefit you immensley. She will help you work out a plan with the food you like so you can lose.
You didn't say what your levels are. but you can be "high normal" and still not feel good and need more meds. Convincing the doctor of that can be hard. Some people also need a combination of meds so they are replacing both T3 and T4. A great website for thyroid info is www.thyroid.about.com |
Best wishes to you!
Although I don't think I have a thyroid problem, and the suggestions from the last person are very good...I think that getting more exercise and keeping a log of calories is helpful, too. I've read it's the most beneficial way to lose weight. Seeing a nutritionist helped me a lot, too. They have all kinds of great tips.
