Fibromyalgia #67
Time to get a new thread started. Anne usually does this but I think she's getting a 'dose' of granddaughter!
Looks like I lost 3 pounds last week! I was hoping for 5! I'll settle for anything, though!!! ;) Ally...we never, ever, ever get out from under aggrevation from our kids. I promise you it won't get any better when they get older. They'll just have a wife to cause you more grief and then bring their kids over for you to take care of!!!!!!! I'm hurting soooooo bad. I guess it's fall! :?: |
I just made my reservations for Gulf Shores in October. To see where we are going to be staying, click on the link below...then click on the 'Property List' link on the left side of the page. Then...scroll down to the Lei Lani listing and click on the picture of the hotel. Ocean front w/ balcony. Kitchen, cable indoor pool and 1 1/2 baths. I can't wait!!! Something will probably happen at the last minute and we won't get to go.

Three pounds in a week - great loss, Meme. Sorry you're hurting so bad.
I agree there's always some little annoyance with your kids but mine are finally "maturing" the last couple of years and seem to realize I'm no longer Superwoman or Mary Marvel. I love to see my grands but they don't live close enough for me to watch them except on an unusual basis. They'll be here again this weekend though and that will be the third time I'll see them in 2 weeks. That does not happen often though. Looks like a lovely vacation spot. I know how you feel about something happening though. I hate to think like a pessimist but it's happened so often...... Just spent some frustrating time on the phone with Medicare. Something's become screwed up re my husband. And now they don't want to talk to me if he's not here to "authorize" me. What a hoot! I told the one girl she doesn't really want to talk to him. Plus when I got home from pool, there was a message from a doctor I had never heard of confirming an appt. for him next week. Fortunately they had left a number. Apparently, his internist office made an appt for him with a kidney specialist and nobody bothered to let him/us know. (He does have kidney problems) He will go through the roof and I don't blame him. This particular dr. office screws up a lot and I have been trying to convince him to go somewhere else but, remember, he is a MAN. I'm sure this is going to lead to rounds of tests, etc. and I wonder why they didn't do this two years ago when he first had kidney problems. Plus tomorrow night I start prepping for Friday's colonoscopy. Ugh! Don't expect any problems though. I am trying to continue with the happy day I was having but sometimes it's so hard. I don't feel as much inclination to reach for the ice cream as I would have at one time. 'Ray!!! He should be in soon from golf and I'm trying to decide which news to tell him first. Well, the call from a fellow about golf will be first, but which bad news to tell him second? I think if he won't change docs I'm going to have to go with him and be a pain in the butt a bit. Not happy at all with the way things have gone since his other internist retired. Good news - it's not quite as hot today but the rain last night missed us totally too. |
Hi Fibropals
Well I did get a dose of my little grand daughter. We got home late on Sunday, and then yesterday, I just got so busy. I came and read and thought I would get back to post, but never made it.
We left for my daughter's on Saturday. Saturday night, my aunt and uncle came over to my daughter's house, and we played cards. Got up Sunday morning, went out for breakfast, and then met my son at Tim Hortons (a donut shop) for coffee. We then stopped on the way home to visit friends, their names are Betty and Norm. Just found out on Friday, that Norm has cancer of the Pancreas and the Liver and there is nothing they can do. Both of these cancers move very quickly. He is 62 and my heart is breaking for them. Betty was a partner in a business we had and I love her like a sister. It is just such a very helpless feeling, but he actually made it easy for us. His attitude is good. I don't know why bad things happen to such good people, but that is the way it is. Sorry to go on and on. Good weightloss Meme. This was also a case of my travelling 100 miles + to babysit. I don't know what ever happened to hiring a babysitter! It is ok, because we were due for a trip up that way anyway. Hi Joanne, Candice, Serenity, Mima, Anagram and Ally |
Hi
Just gort home from a 966 mile trip around NY.The thousand islands are beautiful=went on a nice boat trip , saw a parade, then went to Lake George and went to Fort Henry and home. Thatsa lotta miles but it was great. I love to see new things. Tomorrow is my 64th birthday-I'm back to being 3 years older than Brad. We are going out to eat and to the mall shopping. I get to pick out my own presents. Glad to read everyone's posts. You sure are having good weight losses. Back to normal on Friday. Mima

Hi Guys......still haven't read all last week's posts so I hope I didn't miss anything juicy.
Today I bought a new (to me) car and am selling my old Oldsmobile to my "bad" son. He is really not a bad kid, just at that age where he will do anything to impress his friends. He has had a job for over a year, has to pay me $50 a week for the car and insurance. He also had to sign an agreement about who could and could not ever be in the car. It is still in my name for now, will see how this goes. He is a perfect kid when he wants something. Good thing he went with me to look at the car. I looked at a Buick Regal and a Buick LeSabre. Both were beautiful to me, but my son pointed out all the things that were better about the Regal for only $1000 more. And when they lifted the hood, I might as well have taken a nap but my son was right in there. And I as so stressed out by even thinking about this ( I am an impulsive buyer) I got my period again. It is not due for 2 weeks!!!!! I promise to read and know what you are all talking about next time......:o |
Sorry, Ally, I haven't read much about sex since your last post. But maybe you missed some before that.
Isn't it fun when you do get to rely on your kiddle knowing more about something than you do? I'm sure HE enjoys that too. Happy Birthday, Mima. Sounds like you've had and are having a great time. I'll be celebrating my 65th in a few weeks and I celebrate for a long time (that is, any excuse will do). All the mixup re dh's Medicare was caused by someone messing up when they input my eligibility. Not that anyone admitted that but some of the dates fit me, not him. Candice, have you been to dr. yet? Are you recuperated from you dose of granddaughter yet, Happy? Mine were here overnight last Thursday and they're coming back Saturday. They'll be going to hersheypark Sunday and then the six year old will be staying with us for ---- one overnight! At least that's the current plan. A few weeks ago she was talking about two weeks and had to have a list of all the things she could do while she was here. She still has the list and is currently in negotiations with her mother about time, drivers, what she'll do, etc. Yoy! when I was a kid I was happy to go anywhere I could and do whatever it took to get to go again. So we'll see what happens this weekend and whether she stays without the rest of the family or not. I know the little one will miss her like mad if she does. Joanne, how's the sewing coming? Oops, almost forgot. How could I? That's what the board is for. I weighed today and lost 1.6 pounds (total 14 so far). So far to go but this is better than I've been for a good long while. |
"Fat Switch" Found
This was in our paper the other night. I wonder if this is why so many people with FM can't lose weight quickly - other than inactivity. I sure know that my switch is turned off. It took me 4 months to lose 10 pounds, and that was sticking to the ww diet. Also, wonder if that is why so many of us have this darn fatigue.
Ottawa health researchers have good news for people who stick to their killer diets but can't lose weight quickly: Doctors can stop accusing you of cheating. Some people have a much harder time losing weight because they lack an effective "turbocharger" in their cells that burns off fat, the doctors say. Inside muscle cells, lurks a secret switch, a combined Ottawa Hospital and University of Ottawa Heart Institute team has found. It switches on a burst of fuel-burning activity by the cells in some people, in effect, turbocharging those cells so they burn fat quickly. However, the switch works poorly in some people. Their cells keep burning fuel slowly and efficiently, even when a person wants to fire up the burners to get rid of fat. The result is that some obese people who follow the same diet for the same time may have drastically different success rates. "Traditionally, those persons were accused of under-reporting their food intake or cheating", said Dr. Robert Bent, director of the Ottawa Hospital Weight Management Clinic. What this says is: "Here, there's another reason. Some of these people aren't losing weight because they have a biological reason that makes it so they can't do it quickly, or very well." Bent, biochemist Mary-Ellen Harper and Dr. Ruth McPherson of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute report their findings in this month's edition of a medical jounal called Diabetes. The key lies in a protein in a part of major muscle cells called the mitochondria, which converts food into energy that cells can use. It's the first time this protein has been studied in humans, though it had been studied in mice |
Mima - Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you Happy Birthday, dear Mima Happy Birthday to you. Now you are lucky I am not there to sing it to you:lol: Hope you have a wonderful day. Your trip sounds like it was great. Lots of driving though. Ally - A new car is always nice, and boys and men kind of gravitate to it. They just know about cars, like we know how to bake a cake. How have you been feeling? Anagram - Nice weightloss. Good going. Glad you got your medicare problem worked out. Our medicare systems are totally different. I never pay when I go to the Dr., or for any procedures. Only meds, chiros, naturepaths etc., but not x-rays, mri, cat-scan etc. It is covered under Canada Health. Candice - where in the world have you gone? It seems like ages since you were here. Serenity - Did you finally get your yard done? How did ww go today. Meme - still whirling around? That hotel looks wonderful. |

Hi
Hey thanks for the greetings. Brad gave me a funny card-he says he's going to get a nice one also=it said to make an appt. with the gynecologist if you are over 40-at least you can get someone to look!!!!He;s fresh!!!!!As I said before, we are going out tonight. And we had a good vacation. Your appt. must be coming up Candice. Congrats on your car Ally!!!!!I can only talk to my grandaughters long distance but even that is fun. I sent one a CD rom about geometry because she flunked it and has to take it over again this year . That's the only way I can help her!!!The other one is taking guitar and not sure how she is going to do. She is 12.Gotta go food shopping . Bye for now!!!!Mima

Hey There
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!Mima...Nothing wrong with being fresh..I am at a stage where I don't want the Dr.'s to look. The shock might scare them to death. Then where would I be. My luck ,I would have to pick them off the floor!!
Ally ..It is nice when the kids are no longer kids bur actually able to help us for a change. Ofcourse they always have a surprise for us. Anagram. I have two of my projects cut out. I am trying to keep my nose at the sewing machine and out of the food supplys. I told my hubby I just was not going to buy things we should not eat. So far we are eating the same and he is losing the weight. I just have to buckle down more. Good weight loss. Keep up the good work. How are you Candice? Hello Happy,Meme,Serenity. Happy ..I also believe that our frame of mind has a lot to do with our weight loss as well as our metabolism. Medications play a big part in our weight loss. Usually slowing down our loss. I envy the young person who decides to lose x number of pounds and off it comes. That was a good piece in your paper. You do find the most informative things for us. Bye for now...Joanne |
Happy Birthday Mima. I always get funny cards from men. When my hubby and I were starting to have problems, THEN he got nice cards but they didn't mean anything.
And speaking of gynocologists, I have to go next week. Glad I have this appt. I know it might be "normal" to have 2 periods a month in the beginnings of menopause, but I would hate to think it is something else. When I was younger my mother used to tell me she KNEW she was going to die of cancer. Low and behold she had lung cancer that metastisized to her bones. So, I carry this fear that I will also have cancer. I already had a biopsy after three "bad" pap smears. Gotta get that thought oughta my head. |
Hi guys-Ally, I used to have a lot of periods before meno=one month I had 3. Just keep up the exams-I always have a fear of cancer -my father died of prostate cancer at 48 and Mom develpoed some kind of leukemia at 78. Going for the boobs in Oct but I'm thinking of changing docs. Gotta discuss the HRT. I already have osteoporosis. We went to a nice restaurant last night-couldn't get in to the one we had the gift cert, for-then went shopping but I couldn't find anything except Hawaiin shirts for the wedding next week. Bye Mima

Just got over a 2 day bout with a wicked virus. I won...I'm better today! My temp got up over 102, and the body aches...I only THOUGHT the fibro was bad!!!!!!! I couldn't even MOVE! It was weird, usually with a virus type you throw up or have the runs or both but this one is just temp and body aches. Baby Jenna (3) had it first, then her mom got it and then me and now her brother (6) has it. I'm going to have them both for the next two nights and I feel completely washed out!
I've lost 5 pounds so far. |
