Default Tegretol (carbamazepine)

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else is currently taking tegretol or has had any experience of taking it while dieting?

I've been taking it since November 08 for partial seizures, I know that it has other uses apart from epilepsy such as trigeminal neuralgia and depression. When I started talking it I put on about 20 lbs in a very short amount of time, but I've only just got it together to try and lose it!

I really want to know if anyone has had trouble losing weight while taking it, I'm easily discouraged so if I don't lose weight I'd probably give up quickly, but if I knew it was the tegretol slowing me down I'd more than likely keep at it. The list of side effects goes on for ages, so I was suprised difficulty losing weight wasn't on there!

Thanks

Crunchy xx

Default I understand the struggle!

I usually manage my weight pretty well and I actually found this post searching for tips. Bc I spoke to my doctor and I read and article that said Tegretol causes weight gain and makes it difficult to lose! My sister as well as myself both take it and we both have the same issue. One article said that it can make you unable at all to lose the weight! And I am about to prove that article wrong! I will keep you updated on how it goes!!! But I will be damned if I stop taking a medication that saves my life. And damned if I gain another 30 lbs not to find an answer! If you hear of a way let me know as well. But, I am going to work out and eat healthy and see!
