Sleep Apnea / Diabetes Connected
Here's an interesting article showing that there may be a pretty close link between these two conditions . . . http://www.everydayhealth.com/public...betes_20090110 . . . and urging the medical professionals to start checking their patients who have one or the other of these problems for evidence of the other.

I wonder if they'd post the scientific article that shows the link.

I am not a scientist or in anyway in the medical field, but I do have sleep apnea and believe it is related to my being overweight. Every person I know who has sleep apnea is also overweight. I also believe that there is a definite link between being overweight and having diabetes. I am hoping that by loosing weight I will lower my risk of getting diabetes. Just my own observations.

I think it's more that being overweight is a major cause of sleep apnea. It's not the only one, of course, but definitely one of the more prevelant. Sleep apnea can also cause heart problems if left untreated for a long time.
Losing weight should help with both sleep apnea and diabetes prevention. My sister, who has lost over 80 lbs was able to give up her C-Pap machine. :) |
