Keratosis Pilaris
I don't know if this is the right forum for this, but I wasn't quite sure where to put it.
I have keratosis pilaris (the little red bumps on the arms and legs) and have since I was a kid, they are super bad on my arms. I once asked a doctor about it and her response was "drop a few pounds" and changed the subject, so I never even knew what it was until I finally found out online. I haven't read a lot of relations between keratosis pilaris and obesity though, seems to be mostly genetic. So I am just wondering if anyone else has had experiences with it and if weight loss or gain has had any effects. |
I have it and so does my son. You're right, it's inherited and has nothing at all to do with weight. Talk about doctors blaming everything on weight! Sheesh.
I imagine you found out that the tiny bumps around your hair follicles get red and inflamed. My KP got better as I got older, into my 30's. DS has a bad case and uses skin products with glycolic and salicylic acids that help a lot. Here's a link to an online store that sells KP products and has some good info on how to treat it: http://www.dermstore.com/profile_Ker...ris_400060.htm His dermatologist recommended the AmLactin cream listed on the page. Good luck! We've found that treating it with the right skin products can really make a difference. :) |
Thank you so much for the information and especially the link! I am so excited to give the cream a try... And glad that it's actually affordable!!

I have it too
My mom has it too. Its the most common dermatology issue..and has nothing to do with weight. Its the way the pores are formed, they clog easier than they should...some doctors need to get a clue! |
